Would be true for average citizen, but LEO? I have doubts.

Standards should be the same for average citizens and LEO, but they're not.
On the third hand, they have a lot of video, I think a Hennepin County jury could absolutely convict on that basis alone.

The test should be whether the officer's life was in danger. Not if they feel their life is in danger
Q: How do you respond to people who say what you're saying is in direct contradiction to the video?

NOEM: This vehicle was used to hit this officer. It was used as a weapon. And the officer feels as though his life was in jeopardy

As I am, @davidzipper.bsky.social is baffled why Europe would entertain allowing Waymo et. al. into dense old cities with historic cores.

yep. i can identify any number of structural issues but at the end of the day the basic problem is the republican party. this has been apparent for at least 20 years. it is also an incredibly unpopular observation to make among “serious” people.
Right.

If you want a good explanation of why the American system of government worked well enough for 200 years and then suddenly stopped, it's because Republicans in Congress suddenly started letting their partisan interests COMPLETELY override their institutional interests
a lot of problems wouldn't exist if we had a congress with even an ounce of self interest

Growing up in Missouri, we were taught to give equal respect and honor to all Americans across our great nation except Kansans
Growing up in Maryland, we were taught to give equal respect and honor to all Americans across our great nation except Virginians
We are *all* Real America in the same way a naturalized citizen who took his oath five seconds ago is exactly as much of a citizen as someone whose ancestors came over on the Mayflower.

Once you look for, "does this [article / op-ed / claim by a politician] consider the 80% of Americans who live in urban areas to be real Americans?" you will see it everywhere, because the answer is usually "no."
I'm entirely serious about this: until you internalize the view that urban America is Real America, you won't see the urgency of structural reform of an American government whose fundamental structures so disadvantage its population centers—the great engines of its prosperity, progress, & culture.
Another good practice for the New Year would be for all the non-fascists in America who want to opine about politics to really begin believing that urban America is Real America & that its denizens are The Authentic People. Get some self-respect & drop the volkish nationalist view that they're not

Condos and single family rentals are Good, Actually.

We should have plenty of single family homes you can rent and apartments that you can own.
A lot of Blueskiers are going to dismiss this observation because of the source, but it is correct. I'll just add that I don't think there's anything special about single-family homes that means they should never be rentals, any more than there's a rule that multifamily units should never be condos.

It was hard to convince Americans torture is wrong as a moral principle during Bush's term, and that was with the debate about whether torture makes us safer. I'm afraid for a portion of Trump's base, that calculation matters less. Idea of torturing undocumented immigrants may even bring pleasure.

That news article of racist folks in the UK thinking immigration has gone up even when it’s dramatically down reminds me of those surveys in the US showing some white folks thinking the country is 50 percent Black. White supremacy isn’t logical. It’s built on imagination and violence.
