I walk. I write. I ride the rails (via Amtrak). I seem nice, but I am a prickly curmudgeon who has no patience for car culture.
Not because he legally can't, but because he totally doesn't want to and doesn't even care, losers.

I think my watch-word for 2026 is going to be "for who?" (a phrase, I know) . When I move through our built environment, I am constantly asking "for who?" Who benefits from the decisions we make about land use, and are they here in the room/roadway/sidewalk with us now?

I see there’s a post about microplastics going around with a photo of drinking straws, so here is my semi-regular reminder that the 3 biggest sources of microplastics are tires (45%), synthetic clothing particles (35%) and paint (~10%).
Lay article attached:

There is absolutely no such thing as "free parking" -- someone is paying for it. They are paying with time, lost opportunity, and unproductive space that requires constant maintenance. All parking has a cost, some of you just don't mind other people paying for it.
the fact that there is free parking at all in manhattan is wild to me

"exactly what you would wear to walk from the car to Costco"

People who participate in active transportation just dress for the weather, you wusses.
Are people who are like “you can’t bike in Toronto, we have winter” just like… generally unprepared for winter?

Oh no you have to wear a toque and gloves - exactly what you would wear to walk from the car to Costco.

Temporary Protected Status recipients are rigorously vetted, pay taxes, and do work in critical industries. They are part of our communities and our unions—they deserve respect and protection.

There is a police force and hired private security teams that patrol DART and not once have I seen them do anything to render aid or assistance to someone "experiencing homelessness or mental health issues."

Also, WTF does that mean?

These signs are for suburban city councils and no one else.
