It has been amazing as a newsroom fan, watching @hannahnatanson.bsky.social's incredible, indefatigable reporting on DOGE and the Trump administration.

She shows what journalism can do in a crisis. Please read what she gave to her sources - and the country - this year

I am The Post’s ‘federal government whisperer.’ It’s been brutal.
One reporter’s effort to show how Trump was transforming government brought her 1,168 new sources — and nearly broke her.

Since yesterday, many people have DM’d to say that they were strongly affected by my essay & wished they could share it.

So I've revised, expanded, & posted it for free on both Substack & Patreon.

Please feel free to share.

When Amy Schalet was interviewing experts for her book _Not Under My Roof_, a Dutch pediatrician told her that in the Netherlands, children are considered to be citizens, so of course they have their own rights.
Today I am once again making loads of new Bluesky friends by insisting on one of my most sincerely held beliefs that makes way too many people fucking furious: that teenagers are autonomous beings who are not their parents' property and who possess independent volition and interiority

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

Checked to see what Pandora thought counted as #Thanksgiving Music. It turned out to be soft rock, from about 50 years ago.

I feel like I should have guessed that, but I'm not entirely sure why. Can it be as simple as "Thanksgiving music has always been whatever the grandparents like?"

Thank you! I'm embarrassed I didn't think of it myself.

Now will somebody explain to me why we shouldn't be letting homeless people use the airport concourse during hours when nobody else is using it?

I keep saying this but it’s at least very interesting that many doctors didn’t think ADHD persisted into adulthood until you couldn’t buy Ritalin over the counter anymore and most people stopped smoking.
yeah tbh I’d really rather be on ADHD meds and NOT have to develop a two pack a day cigarette habit as someone who’s never smoked before just to function
I guess I can drink twelve coffees a day while chain smoking if you want me to do this in a socially acceptable manner, I just don't see how that's better for my physical or mental health than Vyvanse, y'know?

Literally shaking. Absolute monsters. DHS's Secretary Noem reassigned agents away from saving a child rape victim and arresting the depraved rapists and traffickers because she's obsessed with Trump's effort to stop immigrants from "poisoning the blood" of the nation.

This is incredibly important:

we must frame tonight as a resounding victory — an electoral landslide, a mandate from the universe itself

and as a repudiation of MAGA, of Trump, and of vichy democrats

we must be relentless, we must not shut up

Sustaining the ability to keep growing food outdoors is a kitchen-table issue.
I actually think the *core* of Democrats’ unwise leftward move was on climate because it creates direct tensions with a classic kitchen table pitch.

All the other stuff (crime, immigration, guns, gender) matters too but the post-2012 pivot off of “all of the above” energy is the most important.
“Dems moved too far left” means BLM and trans equality—and for some, taking COVID seriously—and many Dem politicians really do support those things.

There’s tons of noise and euphemism, but that’s the core argument.

And it is a misguided one, since Dems won the election after that move, in 2020.

This was what sealed the "low-information voter" hypothesis for me: Republicans elected a "businessman" so dumb he actually managed to lose money on a pro sports franchise. But he wasn't dumb enough, so they then went on to elect someone who managed to lose money owning casinos.
Thinking about how, when George W. Bush Jr. ran for president, it came out that he was basically an alcoholic, irresponsible failson *into his 40s*, despite being given opportunity after opportunity (a whole f'ing baseball team!). Then, when he finally decided to cosplay adult ...
