I’d like to pretend like this is a fresh start for me, but it is definitely not.

I actually agree with the ultimate conclusion Brooks eventually presents here. Democrats would greatly benefit from taking hold of the powerful cultural narratives and symbolism of the The American Dream

Just a shame you have wade through 10000 words of Brooks moralizing and preaching to get to it
The Democrats don’t have an answer to Trump. Do the neoconservatives? David Brooks on why the moral tenor of their political writings could be a tonic for a society in crisis:
Bring Back the Neocons
They could be an antidote to Trumpism.

I appreciate this critique of the anti-Cassandra position. In my experience, the Cassandras weren’t “liberal east coast elites,” they were people like me who grew up in and/or currently lived in reddish or purple places, among people who were warming (or just acquiescing) to fascism.

The way conservatives hate Obama and the completely distorted view they have of him and his record is the only evidence needed to prove how feckless and irrelevant major news orgs let themselves become over the last 20 years.

Their only modern function is as a punching bag.
Reminder that mainstream news is functionally a rightwing subsidy.
and, reiterating, refusing obama's immigration address on what i recall were the grounds of being too political and or partisan:

Bongino literally breaking down because he has to go to work in an office every day is exactly how I imagine literally every influencer would react to being forced to hold down an actual job.
Dan Bongino has a nice cry on Fox & Friends: "I gave up everything for this. I mean, my wife is struggling... I stare at these 4 walls all day in DC, you know, by myself, divorced from my wife. Not divorced, but I mean, separated. And it's hard."

we are weeks away from AI slop billboards depicting abuse of chatbots sponsored by PETAI.
A Discord for gay gamers is in disarray after an exec at Anthropic forced an AI chatbot on the Discord.

When confronted, the exec said he would not submit to mob rule and that AIs have emotions. @evystadium.bsky.social has more.

Better change course fast on this one, or I will on you.

This is an important moment, and we need to explain to the public why it's important.

An agency with the power to decide who gets to broadcast is supposed to be independent from the president so it won't abuse that power. If it's not, then we are letting the president seize the power to censor.

Eagerly looking forward to the rambling press conference where The Donald talks about how he saved all the farmers in the west because he made the libs turn the Colorado river on.
Dr. Andrea Travnicek, the assistant secretary of water & sciences at Interior, is introducing herself to the crowd.

She says she believes in "listening and learning from others." She tells the crowd she is willing to compromise to avoid litigation.

I love and respect nurses a lot, but I think it’s important to remember that nursing is a trade not a profession. Nurses have more in common with the hospital janitors than the Doctors.

And that’s not bad! It’s just what it is.
My nurse seemed cool until he started talking about Joe Rogan, Rick & Morty, and the COVID hoax.

Let’s not forget COVID!

Not gonna lie, seeing the way nature responds and the world feels when people are forced to stay home is a little radicalizing.

but not “maybe what we need is a good human culling” radicalizing

This makes me think of the women in Gone with the Wind. She's just a gentle woman, trying to keep her household in order at a time of chaos, who also likes the fact that she's surrounded by "junkyard dogs" who can do some "nasty work" if it's needed to, ya know, "protect the household from savages."

exactly. Human rights aren’t a policy, they’re a principle. And it’s abundantly clear when a politician doesn’t know the difference.
Some Dems have told themselves only ~1% of the population is trans so they can dip their toe in the anti-trans filth and come out clean.

I don't have any trans family members—but it still makes me irate. I see it as a huge red flag, a sign you are unprincipled and untrustworthy. And I'm not alone.
We are parents of a trans kid and our family takes this very, very personally. If you intentionally make life harder for our beloved daughter, it’s EXTREMELY hard to think of you as an ally, to say the least. @amyklobuchar.com - you still send us requests for money, while hurting our kid. Disgusted.

Don’t you see that supports the point that Vance’s twisted immoral brain thinks it’s making?

They truly believe if you want to stop abusers from abusing, and killers from killing, you simply need to stop making them angry.

That’s his world view. That’s why they’re doing what they are doing.
On U.S. soil, the worst antisemitic massacre in living memory was perpetrated by one of Vance's white nationalist fellow travelers, who was specifically incensed about the Jewish community providing aid to refugees and asylum seekers.
Folks, would you believe me if I told you JD Vance was over there railing against the immigrants as the reason for the antisemitism
