this is the thing i've been trying to get at - it's entirely possible someone on global or bell's side knew and failed to take action.

but it's more likely that half the staff checked out for the holiday on friday afternoon & no one checked email on the wknd. set it & forget it.
Global TV is a low-effort conservative-leaning private network, and this wasn’t “treachery” this was “it was the weekend before Christmas and they just broadcast the episode that was sent to them digitally by CBS on Friday”, no one in the office on the weekend even if CBS tried to warn them
From the Atlantic attempt to justify Bari Weiss' decision. What's Canadian for "perfidious Albion?"

For those who see Brad Bradford’s TTC refund policy and think, “That might be a good idea.”, consider that this one delivery truck has been holding up a streetcar for at least 5 minutes. Bradford would punish the TTC and do nothing to the driver.

I really like the idea of scrappy Odysseus, the best tactician in the Achaean army and someone who the soldiers are willing to follow, being shown bowing to King Agamemnon, who is a huge dude and amazing fighter but not actually that great at leading the army.

Wearing Batman gear is just a bonus
Nolan working Batman into every non-Batman movie he makes is an admittedly good bit

Need a wheelchair all the time? Some of the time? Just today? Then great.

I think people need to get used to seeing an increasing aging population being cared for/catered to in public.

Yeah, every year those bigots will be there with bells on.
'Tis the season for the Salvation Army's We're Not Bigots Anymore PR blitz. Looking at their public facing material, you might start to believe them.

So in the festive spirit, have a 2024 SalvationArmy.org article on how trans and gay people are one of Satan's "most insidious and dominating" plots.

I saw this at the Bloor in 1998. Chiu Man Cheuk was there doing an impromptu martial arts demo on stage. Can't wait to see this in 4K
Coming in 4K UHD in March 31st from Criterion. Toughest secret to hold next to a massive Boxset coming next year 😅

If we had a proper social safety net , which is what the left should truly be fighting for, then it would matter if racists were fired for being trash. It wouldn't mean homelessness, lack of healthcare, and starvation
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:
Why the Cinnabon Story Doesn’t Make Me Happy
The left should be promoting working-class solidarity, not delighting in seeing workers summarily dismissed.

Americans: take their shoes off on planes but wear them constantly in their own homes

Such an uncivilized people
imagine a world where a photographer working on an iron beam hundreds of feet above the city shows up in two-tone brogues, a tie, and suspenders, and we can't even get people to keep their shoes on in airplanes
Here he is taking the photo.

This scene from the episode where Lex Luthor body swaps with the Flash is still, unironically, one of the greatest moments of DC universe.

Oof a doof.

Yet again, an actor's portrayal in Extras turns out to be true.

Liam Neeson is an idiot
SCOOP: Academy Award-nominee Liam Neeson narrated a recent anti-vaccine documentary that glorifies RFK Jr.’s rise to power.

In the film, Neeson—a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador—calls the COVID-19 vaccines “dangerous experiments.”

Normalization of poor service is what's plaguing the TTC too No one has the political will to fight for better service times on existing streetcar lines. It's not until we open a brand new line that is slower than jogging on opening day that suddenly politicians start talking about signal priority
Via Rail’s quality of service is far, far below international standards – Canadians need to stop normalizing this:

“Via Rail passengers arrived in Ottawa more than 12 hours late on Thursday, after “serious mechanical issues” forced them to spend the night sitting on a train in Brockville, Ontario”

The Alamo Drafthouse model is the biggest success in cinema this century but no one wants to follow it because fixing projectors and hiring staff to actually enforce no texting rules would cost money.

Not alot, but enough to affect someone's quarterly earnings call
All of this money spent on this study and not a single mention of things that might keep people away: disruptive audience behavior, increasingly poor technical presentation, every shrinking theatrical windows (or day and date indies). I love theaters, and go multiple times a week, but it’s grim.
How Can Movie Theaters Fill More Seats Again? A Bain Report Shares Suggestions
"Audiences haven’t abandoned theaters; they need a more compelling reason to go," the consultancy highlights, sharing suggestions for how to bring fans back to the cinema in the post-COVID era.

I know up is down and the current admin and the media who support them have zero scruples, but can you imagine how Fox would react if this happened 4 years ago and a bidder in a multi-billion dollar deal said "hey we've got Hunter Biden involved so we'll breeze through the regulatory approvals"
