I'm not sure Graeber was right in calling half of all jobs “bullshit jobs,” but every job in which the person occupying it doesn’t care about results and isn’t punished for it profits immensely from even bad AI.

Joking aside (not that I was, and maybe someone already thought of this), I've decided that these stories are maliciously concocted to encourage people to believe that there are isolated heroes out there saving the world so that they (the people) can just sit back and do nothing in the face of evil.
A friend pointed out that all those AI-generated Great White Savior stories include "The room went silent," and now I'm kind of obsessed.

Imagine being a journalist and thinking that withholding evidence is "complying with the spirit if not the intent" of a law and not, say, a sign that criminals might be meddling with or destroying the evidence they're withholding.
