Among the simple, routine things that CBS News didn't do was consult a physician. That helps mark the boundary between journalism and propaganda. Bari Weiss is decidedly in the latter category.

This could be the unified Dem position. It is wildly popular. Puts the regime on defense on two fronts at the same time. Good policy, good politics.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus, a group of nearly 100 House Democrats, will announce later today that it's formally endorsing legislation to strip $175 billion from ICE and put it toward affordable housing. www.huffpost.com/entry/doj-fe...

The actual story is that a family of American citizens trying to evacuate from a neighborhood that ICE had made unsafe, and then ICE tossed munitions into the car, causing three kids to be hospitalized and a six month old to stop breathing. DHS called the family “radical agitators”

The most impressive thing about Bari is her ability to violate ethical principles while indignantly claiming to defend them.
Weiss concluded: “We need to be able to make every effort to get the principals on the record and on camera. To me, our viewers come first, not a listing schedule or anything else. And that is my North Star, and I hope it's the North Star of every person in this newsroom.”

"Get the principals on camera" is such a telling phrase here, because it tells us that for Weiss there's no world in which the victims of these horrific actions can actually be seen as the subjects of the story: They're background noise, and the people who matter are the ones sending them.

There’s at least one GOP super PAC pushing last-minute phone banking efforts for the past couple weeks, TN Republicans are frantic behind the scenes about losing a seat they won by 20+ last cycle

Special elections are legendarily squirrelly but whatever happens next, that’s NOT nothing
of course you're paying attention to this race but I thought this write-up was very good, first I'd heard of her

When troops are deployed overseas in places they absolutely should not be because of a warmonger ass president, and they are killed by someone who acted on their own accord, we typically don’t have a problem blaming the U.S. commander in chief

We're gonna need a truth and reconciliation commission and Nuremberg style trials to reckon with all of this evil, and any Dem candidate for office who shies away from a full reckoning in the name of "moving forward as a nation" can get well and truly fucked

How can Democratic candidates win special elections with 22 point swings while the Democratic Party has such low approval ratings?

The answer isn’t hard to figure out. And it’s not because voters think national Democrats are doing too much and going too far in opposition to Trump’s abuses.
NEW RESULT: Democrats have flipped a state Senate in Iowa.

This was a seat Trump carried by 11%, but Democratic nominee Catherine Drey has just won it by 10.4%.

This is the second legislative flip by Dems in Iowa this year. It also means the GOP loses its supermajority in Iowa’s senate.

There are two political conversations underway.

There's the inside-the-DC bubble with lots of fretting by Dem strategists accompained by pessimistic reporting from the savvy media

then, there are the results playing out across the country

the results matter way more than the punditry
We've just updated our special election Big Board with Drey's big win (10.46 pts, not 11 as stated above).

Across 34 special elections this year, Dems are outperforming last year's presidential results by an average of 16 points. That's far ahead of 2017-18.

Hell, they even screamed "terrorist scarf" and threatened to boycott when Rachel Ray wore a keffiyeh-inspired wrap in a Dunkin' Donuts ad!

If they use the Insurrection Act to crack down on protests, they're likely to spur an actual insurrection. That would not be good for anyone.
