Bari’s complaint was “there’s nothing new here” and while that’s untrue it’s also irrelevant

“we intentionally sent people to be tortured in a hellhole and bragged about it and The Hague is too good for everyone involved” is a story that simply cannot be told enough

I kind of like this whole “We won’t buy your liquor but we will air your state-suppressed news stories” niche that Canada’s apparently carved out.

Ok. Now had a chance to check and, well, at least some docs do appear to be straight up classic redaction fail. And there are some *interesting* bits here.

I kept seeing people use the word samizdat to refer to the Canadian sourcing of the 60 Minutes report on CECOT pulled by Bari Weiss. Here's the definition from Merriam-Webster:

Hell yeah.

This MIGHT work if it were for the fact that

1) "AI" firms just got busted selling chatlogs of millions, which would include all this "venting"

2) The number of times these chatbots, due to their toxic positivity coding, encourage negative emotions like violent impulses and suicidal thoughts.

CBS paid the president of the United States millions in bribe money and now they censor news reports so it does not annoy him. I don’t know how much plainer we can put this.

If refusing to comment is enough to kill a story, then the government now has veto power over journalism.
That’s what CBS normalized last night — and it should scare everyone.

Pulling a finished investigation because the administration refused to comment isn’t journalism. It’s submission.

Hard to express how much I love this.

Twitter is the Nazi site for Nazis. Delete it, ESPECIALLY if you're a famous person or political leader.

Abughazaleh does a great job explaining that it's also TRASH and doesn't even let you reach your audience.

Get the hell off.
This has always been a Bluesky-first campaign. But as of today, we will no longer be using Twitter. At all.

And I'm calling on other candidates to follow suit.

These guys are incompetent at everything, including lying.

“DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said that Gottumukkala “did not fail a sanctioned polygraph test.””

He failed a polygraph test. They’re hoping people will hear “did not fail” and not ask what “sanctioned” means.

Good god

“At least six career staffers at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency were suspended with pay this summer after organizing a polygraph test that the agency’s acting director, Madhu Gottumukkala, failed.”
Acting CISA director failed a polygraph. Career staff are now under investigation.

Yes. The fascist politicians and billionaires who are currently ruining the country are massively mediocre thinkers and monumentally uncreative chumps. They have the advantage of a total lack of morals and a willingness to commit any crime imaginable. But they're losers and they will lose.
they are not brilliant.

the billionaires and institutions in this country are just more craven than we could have ever imagined, even in our most cynical imaginings.

(don't tell me you could imagine. I won't give you a medal.)

Imagine if just by refusing to comment, you could stop any story from running. You would literally never find out anything unflattering about anybody. It amounts to asking people for their blessing to publish your reporting about them.

The “AI isn’t going anywhere” argument makes no sense because these companies are losing billions of dollars per year with no clear path to profitability; the servers AI runs on require massive material inputs like chips and electricity that cost money. When the money runs out AI is going away.
I'm not in marketing but an angry guy shrieking "Guess what asshole...AI isn't going away so you might as well accept it!" doesn't strike me as the way you'd pitch an ostensibly useful product

As everyone knows who has ever written a book or manuscript review, summarizing a text is essential work. It’s the first step of an analysis. If you haven’t summarized the text there is no way I believe that you have understood it.
Professional societies keep beclowning themselves buying into a lie about what an LLM "summary" is. They are inherently counterfeit: not an epistemic product of the ideas in the source, but summary-shaped text linguistically based on *other* works (in the training corpus) that use related language.
This is one of the reasons I remain horrified by seeing @historians.org suggest "ways to use gAI" that included this:
