Some jurisdictions still believe that tighter regulation of cars can encourage innovation and deliver benefits.

The aim here is to improve the efficiency of electric vehicles further.

China will implement the world’s first mandatory electric vehicle energy consumption standard in January 2026.

We could easily afford to start paying for the Tempest server in London but it lacks IPv6 and has issues with network downtime. We also aren't interested in paying a company sending us an ultimatum in the holiday season where we have 6 days to start paying or it's taken down.

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

this is the simple answer to people who keep saying NATO expansion matters. Sure, it matters because it presented an obstacle to Russian imperial ambitions. Putin didn't invade because he hated NATO expansion, he hated NATO expansion because he wanted to invade

This dramatically enhanced pressure on Europe/Denmark and the new outrageous sanctions on info researchers coming at a time when Putin is escalating his physical attacks on Ukraine suggests that the US is now *coordinating* with Russia to weaken Europe and Ukraine.

Denmark lost more troops per capita in the post 9/11 war on Afghanistan. Saying they “are not a good ally” because they won’t surrender their territories to the US is lunacy. We are betraying our allies to satisfy the whims of a would-be Emperor for whom the US is not enough.
They’re again advocating against Denmark when it comes to Greenland

Trump has indeed killed international law and the rules based order established post WW2, but there's also an argument to be made that this order was always designed to be overruled by the US, and now that it is becoming increasingly less useful, can be fully dispensed of by the US ruling class.

Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software.

Just fuck you. Fuck you all.

I can't remember the last time I was this angry.

China continues to lead when it comes to AI regulation

This specific policy is about setting special rules for minors and the elderly, warning users against excessive use, and manual intervention for addiction or suicidal ideation

Sits alongside existing rules such as AI labelling / watermarking
Ok a translation is up.
No matter what your take on these rules, it's hard not to admire China trying to get ahead of these pressing issues: data protection, dependency, labeling and reminders that you are talking to a machine, etc.
Plenty to unpack here.

White men are 36% of the population but 80% of the outrageously whiny mediocrities who think they deserve more without any effort (the other 20% are white women)
Fact | You can't write something predicated in the utterly ludicrous assumption that white men are being excluded from publishing unless you are racist.

For my pedant friends thinking, "OK fine, 500,000 Black people in pretrial is ~10X the 50,000 migrants in ICE detention... But which number was ~100X the scale for Black people?

* People-days of solitary confinement
* Deaths in pretrial detention vs deaths in ICE detention
* Shot and killed by cops
Everything that is happening to immigrants today, happened to Black people at a scale 10x to 100x more, under Biden. Not a typo. 10x to 100x more.

And yet... the plan for avoiding Trump was "Black people, especially men, will show up to vote in record numbers for even more of this mistreatment?"🤡

Supremacy wants to gain all the benefits of society without paying any natural costs, like fair competition.

This response to even the slightest leveling of the playing field demonstrates how committed to the supremacist notion we white folk still are.

Imagine if we ever experienced true equality.

This piece is a great illustration of how the long-term effect of Trump’s destruction of US institutions won’t be felt in a dramatic market collapse, but rather in permanently worse economic conditions, and lower prosperity.

This WSJ article fails to mention that the US has imposed economic sanctions on Cuba since the 1960s, which are now paired with sanctions on Venezuela, leading to the humanitarian crisis today.

The UN always votes 187-2 to lift sanctions on Cuba, but the US refuses to change its illegal position.

He was saying, "I do see race. I am white. You are Black. I just don't let that be a reason to stop us being friends or to discriminate against you.

And in a racist country, me pretending not to see your race would be contributing to your harm"

Plato argued in the Republic that the 'tyrant,' or someone with unlimited wealth and power, would live the worst possible life because his soul would be devoured by lawless, unlimited desires that could never be sated. I think we've gotten confirmation of this from more cases than Trump lately
I always thought Plato was pretty pollyannaish on this point, but this is decent evidence for the view that a man of bad character will therefore be unhappy even with every external trapping of success and good fortune.
President Donald Trump gifted the world with nearly 200 Truth Social posts (and counting) on Christmas Day, where he amplified conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and called for a member of Congress to be deported.
