Some of the best (I think) material in Five Came Back is there because a librarian saw what I was working on over 3 days and asked me if I'd like to take a look at a box of old George Stevens papers that had not been catalogued yet. So no, for a ton of reasons, AI cannot "do the research for you."

“You’ve heard of ‘chicken under a brick,’” my server said. “Well, this is chicken cooked under a marble slab.”

“Is the chicken actually cooked under a marble slab?” I asked.

“No.”
I spent $900 at 1587 Prime so you don’t have to.

I honestly think that many people don't know what their public libraries offer besides books. I think that everyone should go on a public library treasure hunt in 2026. Go explore what your library systems offer at no cost to you. Report back to me :)

I’m a station wagon expert. The problem isn’t whatever nonsense the Secretary of Road Rules Real World Challenge is saying. The problem is Subaru deciding the most popular wagon in history should actually look like a Ford 150 had a baby with a Jeep Cherokee for no fucking reason

With the new Frankenstein film, people are out here acting like Mary Shelley was rich bc her father educated her. Her parents were philosophers, she was married to a poet. She was in debt for most of her life and lost 3 of 4 children (plus said husband.)

I think of Mace, KHamilton, and Lo as the original trio since I saw them play in 2021 together. Now Hamilton’s retirement & Mace’s exit. 😭
Hailie Mace on her way out is tough for the Current. She was a big part of the backline, and her versatility between fullback and CB helped cover injuries for a large swath of the middle season.

Not only for the team but the city. She really broke out in 2022 and mostly built on that each year.

They're trying to prevent the student newspaper from printing news, period. Not just a particular story.

"The Media School directed us to print no news in the paper... nothing but information about homecoming — no other news at all, and particularly no traditional front page news coverage."
Indiana University has fired the staff director of the student newspaper, after disputes in which university leadership tried to pressure him to prevent students from publishing news.

What Robert Redford contributed to American films via Sundance is genuinely immeasurable. He was also an extraordinarily talented director--Ordinary People and Quiz Show are two of the best American studio movies of their eras--and an actor who somehow wore his incredible charisma almost shyly. RIP.
