I've watched thousands of videos from the Jan. 6 riot as part of NPR's reporting and archive project on that day.

Here are some of the lesser known videos that have really stuck with me.

Rather than making it more affordable for families, Trump is stripping away child care from those just trying to go to work.

Thousands depend on these programs, and now their livelihoods are at risk.

It's wrong and cruel — we'll take every step possible to defend Illinoisians.
HHS freezes $10 billion in child-care funding for 5 Democratic states, alleging fraudulent programs
The states include California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota and New York.

147 elected Republicans in Congress voted to overturn a free and fair election, in an attempted “polite” coup after the attempted violent one. We do not soeak of this enough, all these members violated their constitutional oath of office and none of them would have these seats, if we did it right.

"While Dems are likely to retake the House, they’ll need everything to go right to win both chambers. But if it happens, a year from now we’ll be talking about Trump's full lame-duckification & what it means for 2028. That’s a nice note on which to end a year in which hope was in such short supply."

Her travel itinerary was released with some of the Epstein files. It appears the DOJ was monitoring her in 2019.

7/ Second, I think Will is mistaken to describe this as a *Congress* problem rather than a *Republican* problem. The last time the Democrats had majorities (and therefore agenda-setting power) in both chambers was the 117th Congress. And that was a tremendously productive Congress!

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

6/🧵 Why does conventional wisdom miss this? We confuse electoral swings with attitude changes. Gen Z shifted 6 points toward Trump in 2024, suddenly pundits say they're "the most conservative generation in 50 years." Only 42% of Gen Z voted. We mistake turnout shifts for ideological transformation.

Sure, it reopens the government—but it does nothing to address the healthcare crisis that Republicans created.
