the only way it was able to do this is because, as everyone including elon and sam altman have known for years, the datasets for these AIs contain a lot of CSAM

the fact that what just happened doesn't shut down twitter and have elon et al tried in court for allowing is fucking insane
so x dot com’s ai generated CSAM and they admitted it may violate US law and … i haven’t seen in anyone in power say much at all or call to stop using the platform

The same shit happened with the fucking Crypto boom.

Like we have said before, there has been a quality shift in the electronics and IT industry pivoting away from the average consumer toward whatever phantom Silicon Valley is chasing and using it as a capital absorbing strategy.
Silicon Valley isn’t just polluting our cultural and information systems with AI slop and destroying the environment in the process.

They’re also poised to force consumer electronics to shoot up in price because they’re buying up so much hardware for data centers.

The author's barely disguised longing to be a food blogger.

(Nothing like reading what is largely PWP, but it's routinely interspersed with several paragraphs talking about what food the main character is preparing)

Psst.

Hey, come closer.

No, closer.

I have a New Year’s secret for you.

It’s this:

If you care about people you don’t even know, and try to live your life that way, you are absolutely beautiful no matter what you look like.

I will never understand why they replaced community submitted subtitles for this nonsense

Real human people were happy and willing to make subtitles in a variety of languages for free, and the creator had full control of what submissions were used

And they GOT RID OF IT
It finally happened. I finally ran into a Youtube video with that awful auto-dubbing feature turned on.

The video is an interview and it's... not even watchable now. Like the auto-dubbing is just saying random nonsensical words. 😭

Why did they ever think this was a good feature to implement?

Great sign. They are *desperate* to make some money off this stupid thing which probably also means they're seeing the infinite money spigot being turned off in the foreseeable future

Arguments that any technology "can't be put back in the bottle" are always the stupidest thing I've ever heard

We put asbestos back in the bottle

We put lead paint back in the bottle

We put leaded gas back in the bottle

Why can't we put AI back in as well? Just demolish the data centers!

My ONLY caveat to this is medical devices. If patient safety is at stake, no. Please do not put non validated software on your insulin pump or cpap.
If you own a computer it should be illegal for a company to not let you easily install your own software. This includes crap like tvs and refrigerators. Let me put Debian on my dishwasher.

Again: we have discussed all of this before. We warned you that things like this were going to happen. We told you that the values embedded in these LLM/GPT-type "AI" systems were a) trash & b) woefully under-examined.

And yet here we are.

And that is also why I'm furious at CBS about this framing

It's kinda heartbreaking to see so many artists being like "can I post about OCs and not just fanart?", "can I talk about other stuff?", "can I post often?" because the other hellsite literally punished you for doing...normal things you do as an artist - as a person, even.

If you've been posting AI slop and suddenly your event attendance, your podcast listens, your interactions with former collaborators, your business customers, views, likes, etc are down, just because no one said anything doesn't mean it's a mystery.

Just a reminder: you are NOT unusual, weird, or unlovable if you have:

- no one to see on Christmas Day,
- no presents, or
- no contactable relatives.

Very few people live the idealised version on TV. Those of us who live differently—whether by choice or trauma—matter as much.
