And it certainly isn't the fault of the most annoying people on Tumblr that the vast majority of conservatives who insisted that structural racism was fake/overblown but they'd stand up against real racism did no such thing. Trump is a powerful forcing function and the results are revealing.

every family has a beloved holiday classic called like, “Milford’s Marvelous Marzipan” whose pleasures remain forever inscrutable to their baffled, if supportive, partners

Definitely something that should be brought in every earnings call of companies that gave to the Trump slush fund. Opens them up to having their federal contracts challenged and the next DOJ may go after companies for pay to play.
Jamie Dimon says JPM hasn't given to the ballroom because "anything we do, since we do a lot of contracts with governments here and around the world, we have to be very careful about how anything is perceived." Adds "And also how the next DOJ is going to deal with." thehill.com/business/559...

we have a Schrodinger's King. On the one hand, his pronouncements mean nothing because his word is meaningless. However, the fact his word is meaningless is forbidden for the press to use as a weapon against him
Right. This is normally a prelude to imminent war. But no one knows if the us president is serious or had a bad breakfast or is making an insane joke or had a stroke or whatever.
This seems like the kind of declaration by a U.S. president that should be mentioned *somewhere* on the front page of CNN or the NY Times, but the fact that it isn't (as of right now) tells us so much both about how this president is covered and the credibility of the U.S. government.

it's the runaway aesthetic of criticism - plenty of critique walks in with good points or observations the far enough back it's traced, but with enough time and reach it refracts into various social signaling expressions that coalesce and sort themselves into rigid, binary communicative meanings

We have learned that if the Amerikkkan people cannot have their burgers delivered piping hot for less than it costs in person they will collectively elect a guy who kills a million people in developing nations, so the creation of cheap burrito bots is one of the stronger moral obligations out there
Just as you thought food delivery companies couldn't inflict any more misery on society:
Instead of using lowly-paid gig economy contractors to deliver groceries, they're replacing humans with robots, who, in turn, force humans off the pavement into road traffic.

Australia just recorded zero cervical cancer cases in women under 25 for the first time since records began in 1982. The amazing result of HPV vaccination.

As I keep saying, the liberal left should be less defensive about the culture war. You're goddamn right we started the war, it's a holy war against millennia of oppression and we damn well mean to finish the job
The only major faction which does not believe it is the far right, which understands itself to be in a cultural battle for hearts and minds which is only glancingly correlated with economic anything. It’s worked out wonderfully for them

Hanging out with the lads. "Did you know North and South Dakota have similar populations to north and south Manhattan?" They tell me no, they didn't know that. "Well, the Dakotas enjoy four Senate votes between them, where the people of Manhattan have to share two votes with the rest of the state."

“Bullying” is bad by definition. It’s not a value neutral tool to be deployed positively toward good ends. It’s so fucked up that people want so badly to reclaim this thing, and are so eager to do it that they want to brand things that aren’t bullying as bullying.
"Some people deserve to be bullied" is always wild to see because it's so deliberately childish as to make it difficult to imagine the person saying it has the moral capacity of an adult human being.

Don’t forget that *Trump’s own lawyer’s argument* to the Supreme Court in the immunity case was that the check on the President using his immunity to order criminal acts was that those under him would not follow illegal orders. Now it’s a crime for lawmakers to remind servicemembers of that?
The President doesn't want you standing up and speaking out against him, so he's coming after me to intimidate all of us.
But I won't back down — and neither should you.

Why do Dems always run all their most likable, electable, normal candidates with their best policy messages in the year after Trump becomes president, and their second-most likable, electable candidates with the second-best policy messages in the midterms following Trump being elected? It’s weird
