Not sure how this protects the security of the US.

And BTW these same Christians couldn't even get a visa to the US right now.

This is a great example of how genAI steals from us all on multiple levels. It's stolen a promotional spot for real books and authors, it's stolen a job from an actual journalist who could have compiled this, it's stolen an opportunity for parents to be recommended good NZ books for their kids
#4 sounds like a lovely book but I didn't write it. Have had whānau up and down the country send me clippings lol
Whoever put together this list that has been circulated to regional papers, didn't fact check.

Which is, to be clear, Jewish law’s requirements for how to treat the stranger.

Not because they might be a god in disguise, but because *that is the basic requirement for a fellow human being in need.”
This is "I know that Jesus is a magic demigod, and the important thing is to show God the respect that he deserves", but actually the story of the Nativity is, "I don't know who this stranger is, but I can see they need help, and I'm going to be compassionate whether he deserves it or not."

if you're wondering why your trans friends everywhere are a little on edge right now, it's because a story about a radical conservative christian student abusing rules and processes to deliberately target a trans instructor consistently gets reframed to omit the entirety of the anti-trans bigotry

The @princetonupress.bsky.social needs to pull the book and issue a correction while investigating what other errors, omissions, and disinformation they allowed to go to print.
A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!

This is frankly obscene. A form of victim blaming. You cannot ethically put a lying machine into a classroom, tell students who have not LEARNED the actual MATERIAL being discussed to interact with it, and then demand that these students determine what is a lie and what is true.

Shameful.

Really hard to square this meek “oh well, might as well accommodate it” attitude toward AI with the growing movement to ban phones in schools.

Either technology is bad for students or it’s not, you guys!
We know students, like the rest of the world, are using AI. Teachers need to be equipped to deal w/all the issues AI creates. Our approach starts with maximizing safety & privacy and empowering educators to make educational decisions, so AI tools can benefit not harm www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-ne...
AI has become the norm for students. Teachers are playing catch-up.
At a New York City training session, educators explored how artificial intelligence could support teaching while also discussing their concerns around the technology.
