Another favourite wartime fact is that Peter Butterworth of Carry On fame - was a POW at Stalag Luft iii and was involved in the Wooden Horse escape.
When he later tried to audition for a role in the film he was turned down for not looking heroic enough.

If you grew up in this little corner of West Yorkshire in the 70s and 80s, these will be as tied to the idea of Christmas as the Morecambe and Wise Special
Many years ago when I was a child my mum, dad and me took a legendary road trip by service buses to view the Christmas lights of Wakefield, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike and Cleckheaton all fortified by a visit to the Wimpy in Wakefield to begin with!
