Ok also ex-fundiegelical & church basement school alum, other recurring rants include psych diagnostic labels & insurance cos, anti-piracy shit being record label propaganda, and how the US fucked up eggs because it was cheaper than being humane to chickens
We got vaccinated ~2 months ago. I had the flu TWICE this year. We masked while traveling and used hand sanitizer and whatnot.

I thought it was a cold at first because I thought it COULDNT be the flu a THIRD time buuuut this shit is feeling pretty flu-like and it sucks ass.
This is a *bad* flu season

If you're not vaccinated get vaccinated. It's hitting really hard and it's hitting hard very early.
New York just had its worst week of flu cases, ever
New York is facing one of its worst flu seasons ever.

USPS quietly changed its postmark rules — mail is no longer dated when you drop it off. The “official” date is when it hits automated sorting — sometimes days later

Which could have major implications for mail in voting — it’s a clever way to disenfranchise voters that’s going largely overlooked

So how long until we get a story about a kid with “behavioral issues” getting arrested by a “school resource officer” and then having data from one of these read out in court by a judge to justify imprisoning them
“Mayo Clinic researchers have developed a smartwatch-based alert system that signals parents at the earliest signs of a tantrum in children with emotional and behavioral disorders — prompting them to intervene before it intensifies.” www.detroitnews.com/story/life/2...
Mayo Clinic smartwatch system helps parents defuse tantrums early
In this system, a smartwatch worn by the child detects physiological stress signals.

This in particular is so infuriating to me because PRE pandemic, the clinics and hospitals in my area would ask anyone who walked in with any flu type symptoms to put on a surgical mask.

They still put the signs and supplies out but don’t bother asking anymore and almost no one does it.
When I take my kid to the hospital sometimes I’m the only one masking and we’re walking by a bunch of sick people and I’m like Ok man live your life but I’m not inviting in your droplets. Pretty simple stuff.

a hearty and personal fuck you to everyone involved in canning the Walter reed pan-coronavirus nanoferritin particle vaccine, that shit would’ve been cool as fuck and I would’ve gotten it and I probably wouldn’t be sitting here feeling like shit huffing a humidifier today if it existed

Being hostile about *other people* masking is so fucking weird. it’s a lot of other things too but like there is no sensible reason to give a single solitary fuck about somebody else wearing a mask. imagine if these people were being this fucking weird about people wearing sunglasses or sunscreen

seeing this right after watching Jon Stewart be a complete ass about some people still wearing masks in public is quite something

like really? your brain can't comprehend why the less callous half of the population would like to physically protect themselves against the more callous half's choices?

oh god does this mean my cat who loves the roomba is one of those people who thinks the chatbot is their friend
People think that chat bots are alive in the same way that cats and dogs think that the vacuum cleaner is doing a threat display.

Blanket censoring the word “gambling” is literally a pro gambling move.

Gambling platforms avoid the word for obvious reasons, so YouTube eliminating its use under the pretense of combating gambling is the best fucking cover a gambling platform could ask for.

It’s pretty disgusting.
YouTube removed another of my anti-videogame gambling videos for being pro-gambling.

What a fucking farce of a website.

Any artist failing to have such irreconcilable political differences with a gang of Nazi thugs should be suspect as an artist and a human being.
"Any artist cancelling their show at the Trump Kennedy Center over political differences isn't courageous or principled—they are selfish, intolerant, and have failed to meet the basic duty of a public artist: to perform for all people"- Kennedy Center spokesperson Roma Daravi
Kennedy Center vows to sue musician who canceled performance over Trump name change
The Kennedy Center is planning legal action after jazz musician Chuck Redd canceled an annual holiday concert. Redd pulled out after President Trump's name appeared on the building.

the idea that artists have a “duty” “to perform for all people” is uhh kinda fucking horrific. I don’t have a “duty” to dance or play music for anyone, let alone for a hostile audience that poses a safety threat. I’ve walked out of gigs over far, far less than any of things these ghouls are doing.
This is the logical and inevitable conclusion of the last decade of elite media "free speech" discourse.

People not in the US routinely downplay the degree to which law enforcement in this country is willing to kill us.

In grad school I referenced this analysis that found that cops in the US kill more people than "criminals" do in other countries. And that's routine.

When I hear this, I think of the people who were in the streets in Ferguson in 2014-2015 for 375 days STRAIGHT while the national guard was called up and people were being brutalized by cops in the streets for WEEKS. Complete amnesia.
“Why aren’t you in the streets” is a slap in the face to all of those people who been in the streets since Occupy

fun fact not only is opting out of the tsa facial recognition bullshit much easier than opting out of the scanner (as long as you’re prepared enough to not reflexively just follow instructions and stand to the side to begin with), opting out takes literally half as much time as going along with it

using AI cuts corners on involving people who know better. negativity for christmas is an awful ad concept even if it was made by people - so a creative team would push back on the request. business people like AI doesn't argue, not understanding experts were protecting them from their own bad ideas
