Minneapolis and everyone in it has been utterly transformed by our experiences both shared and individually over the last month or more. We are building the better future one day at a time.
“Trying to go back to a phony-baloney corporate job of filing trademarks and talking about profit shares versus incentives and other just horse s--- is just so ultimately meaningless,” Young said. “I’ll figure something else out. But right now, my city needs me.’”

How daily life in Minneapolis has transformed since federal agents flooded the streets

I LOVE IT WHEN THIS WORKS. Spotted a follow-spammer this morning during this investigation I'm still working on, and it also sounded extremely, extremely suspect like a badly behaving ChatGPT hookup. So I got a nice haiku about a cat.

really excellent piece. traditional journalists are already massively losing to these folks in the battle for public attention/$, and as more journos lose our jobs/leave the industry I can only expect that to worsen
The violent occupation of Minneapolis started with a vlog. I've wanted to find a framework to describe Nick Shirley & others like him: "Influencer" is too quaint. "Journalist" is obviously wrong.

I landed on "slopagandist."

Part of the reason we want to try living here is that we are tired of pretending that the individualism we prize in America means much more than selfishness.

Literally everything in Japan is well set up for the blind and visually impaired. Everything.

I think some older sightseeing places are not so easy for people with mobility issues, but many places do have elevators.

Our flight out of Hiroshima is at 7:30 this morning. The airport doesn't even open until 6:00, the counters don't open till 6:15, and security doesn't open until 6:30. None of this get to the airport 2 hours early bullshit that we do at home. I love it.

please remember that no matter how many “ICE is losing in MN” articles you read today, there is still a very real, urgent, ongoing crisis in Minnesota.

people need food and they need rent money. that has not changed.

A retired Minneapolis couple who had guns pointed at them by ICE in a church parking lot.

"They were obviously not trained at all. I've known many police officers in my life. These people were right off the streets."

"They had the professional demeanor of criminals."

lol. I’m waiting for Mike Johnson to propose that all ICE facilities post the Ten Commandments, which will totally prevent any future “mishaps.”
Comer on Fox right now urging Trump to pull ICE out of Minneapolis to *punish* Minnesotans — will prove to the state how good it was to have ICE there! This is really some 5-D chess

Always read M Gessen. Donald Trump ruled the GOP using the same terror techniques that he’s now using to rule the country. Plenty of GOP politicians and activists knew this all along and full well. They chose to capitulate to the terror. They are complicit. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/24/o...

It also betrays a fundamental lack of understanding about sensible risk assessment in organizing.

There are some organizing activities that are so sensitive that yeah, have that conversation offline and put your phone in a Faraday bag.

AND there's some stuff you can do in an unvetted group chat.
I think it is *incredibly* irresponsible for someone like @stonekettle.bsky.social, with a huge following, to claim that Signal is just as insecure as texts or other public social media.

This is a classic “making perfect the enemy of the good” error.

There was one place DHS apparently hadn’t bothered to look: the Minnesota prison system. That’s where Lue Moua, one of their purported targets, has been since a 2024 conviction on charges including felony kidnapping.
Target of Viral Botched ICE Raid Was Already in Prison
When ICE agents dragged out ChongLy Thao half-naked in the snow, they were looking for a man named Lue Moua. They should have known exactly where to find him.

Those atrocities were un-American, too. Why do the evil-doers get to decide what the fundamental American values are? Let's define them ourselves.
I fear my tipping point into madness is "Thus is un-American" posts in response to ICE terrorizing immigrants. I beg you to open Wikipedia (I would say a book but let's start small) and read up on The Trail of Tears, Fugitive Slave Catchers, Japanese internment, Indian Boarding schools & Jim Crow

Another question I came here with was: how effective are the whistles and honking? Does it stop abductions? And the answer is, surprisingly to my cynical self, yes, and often. I have talked to so many people who have successfully interrupted kidnappings.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
