Laughing so much at this. And of course it's Threads. Gotta love bluesky, just the right amount of wokescold here IMO
The curiosity was killing me. The guy said he found the ad on Instagram and that, as of today, the post is still up. So I spent an hour or so on a spreadsheet of every single bar, pub, or club I could find in Salt Lake City, almost 100.

None of them posted it

Not the worst thing about this but she has no authority to "expect" individuals to do anything! EHRC job is to regulate service providers, not issue instructions to members of the public

not sure how to square ‘no one person can be reasonably expected to pay for every media subscription’ with ‘sorely underpaid writers need to make a living’ but my inclination is not to locate that problem with any of the broke ass people on either end of the complaint

Trump in a room with a very charismatic person results in like half a day of Trump agreeing with everything that person said, so this has the potential to be very, very funny.

Genuinely very funny for Sadiq Khan 2.0 to be in this list from a certain perspective, but also worth reminding that faced with the reality of a blandly competent centre left administrator like Khan the international right (including many in Britain!) still just plough ahead with these delusions.
Some of the things the MAGAverse have called @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social since his election victory last night:

• Third world communist
• Marxist jihadi
• Muslim socialist
• True extremist
• Communist Muslim Jihadist
• neo-Marxist Jihadi
• Sadiq Khan 2.0
• Bolshevik

Most people are better served in ready-to-wear, not cheap custom. If they do custom tailoring, they would benefit from having someone gently guide them towards better choices, politely saying "no" when necessary. See what Graydon Carter said of his tailor at Anderson & Sheppard.

worth applying to politics as well. when you're criticizing an action people take "taking the better action next time" is only one of the alternatives people will consider, and worth remembering that "not bothering at all" is another.
I think about this a lot.

It's genuinely crackers that in the UK, a social media company can *take advertising money from a fraudster*, the bank has to repay the victim out of its pocket, and the social media company doesn't even have to give the advertising cash to the bank! They make money on the transaction!
EXCLUSIVE: The British government is preparing to roll back on its pledge to make Big Tech companies pay for scams in its upcoming fraud strategy.

A thing social media has enabled is that you can respond to an unimaginable horror about which you feel powerless (the continuing spread of political violence) with something manageable (smearing everyone on a small social site that you dislike).

Again, I watched this at the time: the initial round of media reaction was all about photos of Sir Jimmy with royals, prime ministers and celebrities. And that stuff stopped overnight in favour of hammering the BBC specifically, and everything thereafter for about a year was focused on the BBC.
More than a decade later, the received wisdom and established story of Jimmy Savile is that it was this tragic oversight that was the product of systematic negligence and mistakes, but for which not a single other person has faced serious consequences. Round and round we go. Again and again.
