this is making me shake with anger
NEW: beginning january 1, chicago will ban unhoused people on the sex offense registry from seeking shelter on public transit.

it’s the latest in a concerted effort by mayor johnson’s admin to criminalize homelessness on cta trains + buses and in public parks during the coldest months of the year.

“Police beats where peacekeepers are active saw a decrease in homicides of more than 63%, more than double the citywide average.” We know what works, and Shotspotter isn’t it.
NEW: A steep drop in homicides in the 12 South and West side neighborhoods that had ShotSpotter sensors lasted a full year after Mayor Brandon Johnson scrapped the city’s controversial gunshot detection system, an updated analysis of Chicago crime data shows. @wttw.bsky.social
Steep Drop in Homicides Continued for Full Year After ShotSpotter Was Removed: Analysis
Supporters of the gunshot detection system said it helped officers save lives when shootings were not reported to emergency services. ShotSpotter was never used to dispatch paramedics.

i tried many times to talk about the city’s hostility toward unhoused people with mayor johnson’s office—including his chief homelessness officer, his deputy mayor for community safety, and his director of reentry.

i never heard back.

Chicago Teachers Union Derangement Syndrome is going to be a huge part of next year's municipal elections

(The election is technically in Feb. 2027, but the races will start in fall 2026, and the billionaires behind "Common Ground Collective" and "The Urban Center" are already sending out ads)

It is remarkably easy for the cops to manufacture excuses to work around the prohibition on assisting with immigration enforcement
Border Patrol called cops on this man and claimed he was trying to ram them. The man denied it to CPD and in a Tribune interview. He was let go. The livestream video doesn’t show the man attempting to ram anyone on LSD
In Chicago, a man on Facebook Live was following the Border Patrol north on Lake Shore Drive. At the end of the drive, a bunch of city cop cars cut off the man who was following and live-streaming Border Patrol.

video streamed to facebook shows multiple chicago police cars ostensibly block community members + rapid responders from following a caravan of roughly 10 border patrol suvs, including one carrying greg bovino.

before this, the streamer followed agents from i-55 all the way up lsd to edgewater.

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has made it abundantly clear that he does not give a damn about violations of 5 ILCS 805/15. Senator @mikesimmonsil.bsky.social, why do we even have a bicameral legislature for the state of Illinois if its legislative output is optionally meaningless?

Senator @mikesimmonsil.bsky.social, why is it that our state's Executive Branch gets to ignore the laws passed by our Legislative Branch? As far as I'm aware, this happened in your senate district, just blocks away from your Chicago office. Is 5 ILCS 805/15 a real law or a pretend law?
In case you still think that local police are going to stand up to federal immigration agents:

A few of minutes ago CPD swooped in on a community caravan that was tailing CBP agents to honk horns and warn neighbors, blocking the caravan from following and giving agents a clean break from scrutiny.

No matter how you slice it, US police officers are safer on the job and paid waaaaay more than other countries' police despite doing a…less than stellar job

The question isn't more police vs. less police. It's why are US police paid so much while doing such little and such poor police work?

At least one of the agents' vehicles had no license plates. These CPD officers could have easily chosen to pull the plateless vehicle(s) over, with clear basis in traffic enforcement law. But instead, they chose to block Chicagoans who were trying to prevent harm.

It is simply not an exaggeration to say that Chicago police officers refuse to stop assaulting and abusing their colleagues, the abuse functions as a form of control and retaliation within the ranks, and every "police accountability" structure has failed to meaningfully address any of it.
