The most recent update seems to have turned off this setting. Go turn it back on. Use ALT
I am once again here to implore you to use ALT text on every single image you can.

You can change your settings so that it won't let you post an image without it, and thus you don't have to worry about forgetting.

It only takes a little to be inclusive.

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

Not-so-fun fact: Even when data is stored on servers physically located in Canada, it may still be subject to U.S. legal orders if the service provider (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, etc.) falls under U.S. jurisdiction.

If you have a bank account in your country or use U.S. technology, as most of us do, this will 100% affect you and your loved ones now and well into the foreseeable future. And this is why #Digitalsovereignty should be a goal for every democratic government if they are serious about freedom.

People seem to be missing Andrea’s point. The Feds haven’t seemingly acknowledged there’s a state of emergency here. Yes, official response has a chain of command, but that doesn’t mean they should ignore the situation until we beg for help. #BCflood #BCstorm
Interesting that the federal government hasn’t reached out to B.C. or Abbotsford re: floods this week.

This was the front of the paper today, btw.

Scientists at Canadian institutions have long punched well above our weight despite low and stagnant funding. Spending a billion dollars on external recruitment while science here is starving is exactly what Harper got wrong about supporting research excellence in Canada.
Canada’s new government is investing big to attract world-class talent in science and technology — and become an innovation powerhouse.

Yikes.

Be careful out there. Most of the routes connecting the Lower Mainland to the Interior have now been closed due to heavy rain, flooding, avalanche risk and rock slides.

Because of a risk of flooding, avoid travel in the Fraser Valley unless necessary until the atmospheric river passes and water levels subside. Highway 1 and other provincial roadways could close with little or no notice. Follow DriveBC.ca for the latest info. #BCFlood

If you are arguing against making the world more inclusive and fairer for people with disabilities “because cheating” —

…you are the asshole.

Yes, you are.

An inclusive world is a better place where everyone can thrive.

Arguing otherwise makes you the asshole.

So here’s the thing: I, a certified Disabled™️ Person, do not actually care if anyone fakes for an extra 20 minutes on the test. I care deeply about how the fear of that very thing puts up flaming hoops disabled people have to jump through.

Maybe listen to disabled folk on this one.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

I would rather have a world where we all trust each other and accept that a few people will take advantage of it than a world where folks have to perform disability constantly in order to get the help they need. Let kids have an extra 30 minutes on the test, jesus fucking christ

These debates about accommodations for autistic and ADHD people always seem predicated on the false idea there is some generous but zero-sum basket of resources.

There isn’t.

We’re usually talking about things like extra time, instruction clarification, wearing headphones, or using fidget tools.

How about we worry less, as a society, about whether individuals might be cheating to get a disability accommodation or some help buying food, and more about whether extremely wealthy people and corporations are paying their fair share of taxes?
