My grandmother has only ever been here one time, long before I ever was and she told me "America is a very odd country, they get the people to buy all kinds of things they don't want and in return they make them give up the things they need" never forgot that line
A really easy thing to confirm by travelling to literally any other country is that The United States and people in it are extremely wealthy by world standards. We use our wealth very badly in terms of translating to quality of life, but in terms of absolute "do people here have lots of money" we do

Neoliberalism demands the appearance of normalcy and order. Masks represent disorder and a threat to the attempts to sweep covid and the necropolitics/eugenic worldview at play in allowing it to continue its spread and kill tens of thousands of Americans unabated. This is deeply authoritarian.
UPDATE: NY Governor Kathy Hochul said on CNN last night that she is considering a ban on masks.

This is absolutely shameful! New York has suffered so much from COVID, and COVID is not over. We should be normalizing and depoliticizing masks, not banning them.

Weird, you mean the 40-60% rise in food prices we've seen in the last 4 years wasn't based on reality or supply chain issues, but rather on pure corporate greed just like everyone already knew? Thank God the government is here to do absolutely Fuck All about it except confirm what we knew already!
Large Grocers Took Advantage of Pandemic Supply Chain Disruptions, F.T.C. Finds
A report found that large firms pressured suppliers to favor them over competitors. It also concluded that some retailers “seem to have used rising costs as an opportunity to further hike prices.”

All of this is true, and in addition, when we stop using AI art, it stops using water and electricity, but if we stop using human artists, the human still exists and has needs that must be met.
An AI datacenter devours enough water and electricity for a whole city of people each day.

A human artist only takes up as much electricity and water as any single human.

This is why, even if we settle copyrights and such, AI will always be immoral. Just pay a human.

Two more tribal nations in Oklahoma have stepped up to accept funds and feed all children, Native or not, in their reservation borders, in addition to the Cherokee and Chickasaw Nations. The Osage and Choctaw Nations will now be participating as well.
A range of radical orgs developed free breakfast programs in the 1960s b/c they knew the state would let Black, brown, and poor white kids starve. The Black Panthers inspired the Young Lords and the Young Patriots. These governors are undoing the legacy of their work.
