About 27 million fewer vehicles entered the congested pricing tolling zone over the last calendar year than would have occurred without tolling, according to the MTA.

Californians need NIMBYism like a fish needs a bicycle.

And the longer they stubbornly cling to NIMBYism, the more they’ll be sending people into the waiting arms of states like Texas, Arizona and Florida, giving those states greater representation in Congress.
Californians who project their weird left-nimby anxieties on NYC are generally pretty annoying but the implication that *Kathy Hochul* is a left-NIMBY is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while

Mark Kelly has been retired from the navy for 15 years. In no way should he (or any other former military officers retired for so long) be able to be disciplined by Defense Department. Nevermind that he has constitutional grounds for protection by the Speech and Debate Clause.

Bet you the dumbasses in DC didn’t think about that…
so… uh… what happens if Maduro is acquitted? do we fly him back to Venezuela?

I mean, did we expect Chuck Schumer or Joe Lieberman to take the oath on a Bible? Asking for a friend…
Anyone who insists that Zohran Mamdani or any other non-Christian take a swearing-in-oath on a Bible is the modern day version of the Pharisees that Jesus the Christ warned us about.

Separation of Church and State is good for the church and good for the state.

He sure does. And billionaires like Bill Ackman have forgotten where they came from when they tried to derail Mamdani’s campaign for mayor. Oh well, too bad for Ackman and company. He’s Mayor Mamdani now!

Didn’t this clown say he wants to make New York more affordable? Well, he doesn’t seem to be doing such a good job of making Nassau County more affordable. And putting up surveillance cameras at the line? Probably on Nassau County taxpayers’ dime, because he ain’t gonna pay for them on his own.

For better or worse being able to build infrastructure at European/Asian costs is a pipe dream at this point, but if we can’t even stay competitive with Southern California construction costs, RLE will be the final extension of the ‘L’ network.

And personally, I think that would be a bad thing.

On December 14th, I sat across from 142 New Yorkers as they shared their concerns, their dreams, the leadership they long for from City Hall. Our campaign was built around listening to the people of New York, and we will govern in the same way. Tomorrow, we get to work.

The most under-reported story of the year, IMO, is about the national implications of the extreme and wildly popular success of congestion pricing in New York City.

When you remove cars from cities, you not only make money for things the city needs; you make people in the city much, much happier.
It's hard to think of another policy that is so fundamentally a free lunch as congestion pricing is
Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan…

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.

Yep, plenty of other theaters in the DMV. It’s not the artists’ fault that the Kennedy Center’s board is engaging in both mismanagement AND capitulation.

This McArdle lady is such a clueless boob.
This is not hard. Artists are not responsible for ensuring the Kennedy Center remains relevant and successful. The center’s board is responsible for that, in a fiduciary way. All of this energy being directed at artists should be re-directed at the board.

Finally, for transit to thrive, it has to be useful. Density makes that possible.

More density ➡️ More service ➡️ More riders

That's the winning recipe in Vancouver, where ridership is almost back to pre-Covid levels. Much of the growth is from big suburban developments built atop transit stations.
The Secret to Vancouver’s Public Transit Ridership Recovery
The Canadian city’s transit agency, TransLink, bounced back from Covid even as other North American systems have struggled. Its leader explains why riders returned.

Merry Christmas, War is Over

🎅 Happy Xmas (War Is Over) - John Lennon 1971
"Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" is a song written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, released as a single in 1971 by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and the Plastic Ono Band on Apple Records, catalogue Apple 1842 in the US, and Apple R5970 in the UK. Initially, the song was not a success in the U.S., due to lack of promotion and being recorded too close to Christmas, but it eventually reached #4 on the British singles chart in 1973; a UK reissue after Lennon's death in 1982 gained two notches, stopping just shy of the top position at #2. The song's first appearance on album was the 1975 compilation Shaved Fish. Although ostensibly a protest song about the Vietnam War, it has become a Christmas standard and has appeared on several Christmas albums. The lyric is based on a campaign in late 1969 by Lennon and Ono, who rented billboards and posters in eleven cities around the world that read: "WAR IS OVER! (If You Want It) Happy Christmas from John and Yoko". The cities included New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Rome, Athens, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Helsinki. At the time of the song's release, the US was deeply entrenched in the unpopular Vietnam War. The line "War is over, if you want it, war is over, now!", as sung by the background vocals, was taken directly from the billboards. It was recorded at Record Plant Studios in New York City in late October 1971, with the help of producer Phil Spector. It features heavily echoed vocals, and a sing-along chorus. The children singing in the background were from the Harlem Community Choir and are credited on the song's single. Happy Xmas on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Xmas_(War_Is_Over)

There are A LOT of people who really need to be thinking about that…especially on this Christmas Day!
“Pope Leo said in a Christmas Eve sermon on Wednesday that the story of Jesus being born in a stable because there was no room at an inn should remind Christians that refusing to help the poor & strangers today is tantamount to rejecting God himself.”

Obvious to any REAL Christian. #MerryChristmas
Pope Leo, on Christmas Eve, says denying help to poor is rejecting God
Leo has made care for immigrants and the poor key themes of his early papacy.

I'm going to say what I think is an obvious thing, but will probably take rightful flak for because it's cliched if I say it:

A Liberal media machine startup should be in Philadelphia or Baltimore, to be in cheap offices and away from the DC/NYC social/access pressures.
this increasingly seems like the thousand-dollar bill that's just lying on the sidewalk
tbh i think “build a party media apparatus” goes a long way since it at least lets you achieve a level of perpetual mobilization among part of your base and also communicate to electeds what the red meat of the day should be
