Thread and quoted thread. People will tell us we're going to hell for not agreeing with them and we're expected to take it as a kindness but if we merely assert we don't agree then we're forcing our beliefs on them.
Thread. This is a crucial thing for non-Christian Americans to understand. Most Christian Nationalists think it’s an act of kindness on their part to tell you that you will be going to hell if you don’t convert. It’s incomprehensible to most of them that they’re being bigots.
I'm going to tell my favorite story again about reflecting the certainty of beliefs back at people who don't expect it.

A friend was one of the few Jews on faculty at a North Dakota University. Every year, his colleague in religious studies would invite him to come to his religious studies class...

Simultaneously more and less terrifying than the Times Square characters, and I saw a Times Square Elmo try to abduct a small child once - presumably to turn it into one of them, but maybe also for food?
Today I learned that Red Square in Moscow is like Hollywood Boulevard, with guys walking around dressed as Lenin and Stalin posing for photos.

It's so funny that a billionaire was on here *this week* being like, "Well if there are any *good ideas* on how to implement universal healthcare I would love to entertain them!" but also hasn't just uhh checked to see how every other country in the so-called developed world has done it in some form

Today is an excellent day to have already blocked Mark Cuban.

Once, when I was in college, I was walking to a class, and a small group of students walking passed me stopped and asked, "Have you heard about Jesus?"

"...yes?" I replied, genuinely confused.

We stared at each other for an awkward second, and continued on our respective ways.
“But I’m just sharing the good news about Jesus that you may not have heard.” Really? You think I’ve lived here in America and have never encountered Christianity?

It’s kind of incredible that he’s asking furries on a niche microblogging site to explain UHC instead of like, texting Elizabeth Warren for a reading list.
Mark Cuban is so annoying here asking random social media people for their universal healthcare plan instead of the bountiful amounts of policy papers and numerous proposals that exist on the subject

When a Christian Nationalist hears someone say “You believe what you want, but I don’t agree with you” what they generally hear is “I think you’re evil and should be silenced.” This is what they call “projection.”

To everyone who's Christmas looks like just hanging around the house, not really doing anything "festive", for whatever reason whether it be due to not celebrating or disability or illness or ptsd related things?

You're valid, and your Christmas is not sad. It's relaxing and cozy.

The court document below is NOT new. I reprinted it in my 2020 book HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT when discussing Trump's history with Epstein. Others also covered it. It was publicly available. Garland of course knew too and protected Trump. And Dems protected and defended Garland. Why pretend otherwise?
Merrick Garland hid this from us for 4 YEARS,

and allowed this disgusting monster to be reelected

The next time someone tells you Coca-Cola invented modern Santa, you can lay one helluva WELL ACTUALLY on them.
One of the earliest-ever modern portrayals of Santa Claus features him gifting Union soldiers with a jumping-jack doll of Jefferson Davis dangling from a noose - as drawn by political cartoonist Thomas Nast.

something i learned when a fact checker hired by @swordsjew.bsky.social called me is that books only have fact checkers if the author insists on it or even hires one themselves. you can put anything in a book. that was the only fact checker i’ve ever talked to but i’ve been quoted in other books
A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!

I’ll give Michael Caine this though: he is totally committed to acting against Muppets as if they are respectable human thespians
nothing demonstrates how good people are at missing the blindingly obvious anti-capitalist message of “A Christmas Carol” than the fact that Michael Caine starred in the iconic “Muppet Christmas Carol” and is STILL a loathsome Tory

I want to see pleas for character actors to cleave them in twain with a broadsword. I want people volunteering to get kicked down the Exorcist steps by Alicia Witt.

The problem is that British people think American English is a corruption of British English (it's not) and American people think British English is a deliberate affectation intended to signal cultural superiority (it's not).
Someone in America on Substack Notes saw this and corrected my spelling of mum to "mom" and although I think - despite everything we find out, every day - there remain innumerable fantastic things about America, that probably tells you quite a bit about America, and none of it is very good.
First time my mum went to my dad's parents house she noticed my granddad had a party hat on. Seemed odd as there was no party.
"Why is he wearing that?" she asked my dad later.
"It's because he's so forgetful," said my dad. "My mum makes him wear it every time he's switched the immersion heater on."
