If there's one thing that domestic violence research has taught me, it's that abusers set up no-win scenarios. They punish you whether you cooperate with them or whether you push back.
The only way out is to strengthen ties with people outside of the relationship who can create new, better options.

I will just put this out there. If all the senators who are saying they want to block this bill really wanted to badly enough they could force Schumer's hand. This isn't 'if Mike Pence has courage'. A leader doesn't buck the overwhelming majority of his caucus. Doesn't happen.

It's annoying how clearly this is going to play out.
They gut the FAA.
Therefore, the FAA can't do its job well because it was gutted.
Therefore, they say "The FAA sucks, we have to privatize it." which is what Project 2025 wants to do. They're manufacturing the crises for their end goal.

I just realized that not everybody knows this, but one of the reasons funding mRNA flu vaccine research is so critical right now is because while we do have an existing vaccine for bird flu, conventional flu vaccines are incubated in chicken eggs.

One class I am teaching this semester is on Universal Design for Learning and a ground rule is to focus on your goal, and then you can move your pedagogical tactics around that goal. This, you can imagine, has been immeasurably helpful perspective for me at this moment.

You do not have to consume every single tiny piece of bad news in order to be a good person. It’s ok to miss things. Traumatizing yourself isn’t the same as activism. Bearing witness to the point that you’re paralyzed with fear and horror and fury isn’t going to help us get through this.
Remember their goal is to terrorize us. And social media is a fantastic way to spread terror. We don’t have to help them.
Based on the vibes of my timeline today I’m feeling like the next two weeks are probably gonna be a really good time to reduce social media use as much as possible. Because YIKES.
