do you have any idea how chill you have to be for sex workers to say they felt unusually safe around you WHILE you smoked crack?!
I wanna personally congratulate Hunter Biden for not only being nowhere near the Epstein files but for having rock-solid reviews from sex workers for respectfulness and tipping

Child at the podium: “A woo woo woo.”

Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

Yup. If you’re going to have little kids at a press conference, you have to welcome the fact that they act like little kids. What’s creepy is when people line up a bunch of silent children who behave like Act 1 Von Trapps.

I need people to understand that if you’ve dealt with ice, if you’ve had to worry about you or your kids or neighbors disappearing, if you see the govt giving nazis carte blanche to kill you, every “reform”’ from democrats who currently reject abolition sounds insane. and frankly fucking stupid

"We would have lost so much if we'd driven him away" is the justification.

But we lost all those girls. We lost the women they would have become. We lost the work they would have done. Why was his future work so much more valuable than theirs?

Men are not trash. Perpetuating that narrative helps normalize rape culture by making it seem like it's just inherent to their nature. It's not.

Men are human beings. The social system of patriarchal masculinity is what's trash, and it hurts them too. We can change that.

My actual job description is activist and here’s what I tell people in despair all the time: do not underestimate how much harm you can prevent by being just a little bit annoying.
This is one reason I keep trying to remind people of the power that we have. That we have *always* had. Not because I’m in denial, but because I know history. I’m no sophisticated intellectual, but I do know we’re going to win even though the bad shit is really terrible right now.
Too many people on Bluesky think that relentless expressions of despair are a sign of intellectual sophistication.

I will just say that we are currently collecting our quiet whistles & misprints & disasters to send to my mother, a Minneapolis artist who does assemblage sculptures, because it does feel like this would be a really fun way to recycle the misprints & memorialize this moment. 💓
Suddenly realizing that in 10-20 years, the MN Historical Society will have an exhibit about *all this* and there will be a whole wall showing different types of whistles
We have favorite whistles now. I never could have imagined.

A bizarre number of people have stepped up to defend Julie Le. What you see in that transcript is an attorney who chose to do evil work—deporting people for ICE then moving over to DOJ in early Jan. specifically to fight these habeas petitions—being called to the carpet. She's desperate, not heroic.
If you want to read the transcript of the February 3 hearing where Julie Le had her "this job sucks" meltdown, now you can:

This is unreal. An AUSA talking like that in open court is about as close as you can come to a total breakdown. Never heard of anything like it.

that stage of society when school children share the bond of having endured the camps together
The two children who returned to MN today say they saw one of their Valley View schoolmates at a detention center in TX. This is a child whose family was last in contact with the school on January 9. No one has known where they were until now.

worth noting that the second rich people stopped being afraid of mobs tearing them limb from limb, they stopped building libraries and opera houses and stuff and started ripping the copper wiring out of the walls of society instead

A few days ago, I stood in the graveyard of an 1100 year old church, getting damper and damper in the drizzling rain.

A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones.

The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...

And so I say to the detectives "look, I know it's a weird question, but when you've confirmed they're old graveyard bones, not murder bones, can we have them back?"

And the detectives say "... We've never been asked that before..."

I think people often wonder this, and it's a great question, so let me explain the advantages of 3D printing whistles. There are many.

The 3D printing effort started from one of our organizers who started by sourcing mass-produced whistles.
I mean, are they really cheaper or easier to produce than just sourcing the right thing from a mass distributor? it's sweet but doesn't seem Pareto efficient, and I feel like that's important to the revolution
