Between this and Spice8Rack's video (linked below), my general sense is Aetherdrift as a set is better understood through the lens of Punk. Which, sadly, makes even more sense why people bounced off of it.

It’s never, EVER enough to just be against something
George Conway, Bill Kristol, Rick Wilson and those guys are dragging the Democratic Party to the right because all that matters is that you despise Trump. Even if everything you stood for over twenty years lead to Trump. You just gotta be Never Trump or Used to Be Trump.

It’s embarrassing

What bothers me about LLM use growing, why people would ask it anything at all had me missing something.

But while on my eighth google for the purpose of LEDs on a Mac Pro 4,1 CPU board and getting bad answers and videos I realised…

Search engines today also only give approximations of answers.
As always, the truly interesting thing about LLMs is how EAGER many people are to accept a very rough, very poor imitation of a personality as real.
The only thing ChatGPT ever does.

tl;dr: GenAI and game design concepts traditionally referred to as "AI" (enemy behaviors, pathfinding, etc.) are not the same thing, and I'm on my knees begging people to learn the difference, lest we see more bullshit claims like what The Escapist put out re: Blue Prince.
Weird weekend, huh? Took a crack at breaking down the whole Clair Obscur genAI situation, and its bizarre fallout, as best as possible. My main takeaway right now is that people really need to figure out exactly what they're criticizing or it's going to get messy. www.polygon.com/clair-obscur...

The confusion and conflation of ‘generative ai that is built on stolen artwork’ and ‘machine learning, character behaviour modelling and proc gen’ is intentional on the part of the grifters peddling the former. They benefit from murkiness of classification, because the latter predates their bollocks

As someone who studied Cognitive Science I feel this deeply. I am anti GenAI/LLM because of social, economic, environmental and creative reasons. People hating all AI use because of GenAI/LLM makes me exhausted.
I am somehow both anti-ai and anti-anti-ai

it would actually cost SO MUCH LESS to just do this instead of throwing trillions of dollars at technofascists too, who would've thought
they didn't need AI to make Silksong, it just needed some deeply insane guys to have a blank check for living expenses until their next thing was done, I think we should try doing more of that instead

The quicker we get to actual physical punishment/incarceration for these private equity/tech bro/billionaire leeches, that's the only way we'll actually start seeing changes.

If it's just a monetary fine, they can write it off as a simple business expense.
If you pay attention to any large industry long enough and follow it to its logical conclusion you eventually end up sounding like a communist even if you started off testing CPU case fans. youtu.be/cUrJVdF2me0?...

This is honestly one of my favorite movies. It's catty, charming and ruthless towards the people who think it's just as good to read a review and form an opinion than engage with the original piece of art.

A reminder that The Escapist that people remembered does not exist anymore. Almost all the core staff packed up and left. Most reformed as Second Wind, which is doing decent work.

The Escapist now exists to promote online gambling and act as a mouthpiece for unhinged venture capitalists. Let it die
The Escapist accused Blue Prince developer Dogubomb of using generative AI. This is patently false and an utterly gross accusation.

The story has since been amended, but the damage has been done. You can search out the current version if you want, but here’s the original.

simply loathe how machine learning & LLM-based generative "AI" have not just been conflated in the public consciousness, but how the latter subsumes the former to an extent where it feels like we're losing ground on useful ML by shoehorning a fucken plagerism chatbot into every goddamn thing.
