In order to come back from this America will need to completely overhaul our immigration system. Everyone who comes here for anything other than tourism will need to be given permanent resident status and be made completely exempt from deportation.

Look, the thing to understand is that this isn't a culture that really rewards self-improvement. You look at young white men, they're not going into academia, they're not planning for college. This is absolute nonsense. If they come through unofficially how are we going to ask them if they want to be lawful residents or if they want to say the American Shahada and become full citizens? It would be an administrative nightmare!
I have to say I think it's appropriate for people to come across our border unofficially. Many are climate refugees or refugees from the consequences of US policies in their countries. Plus making our borders more oppressive is not the same thing as making them stronger, whatever that means.
There is absolutely zero need for anybody to praise Donald Trump for "making sure our borders are stronger." That is whitewashing what he is doing and reinforcing the anti-immigrant sentiment that Trump has always capitalized on.
