As Don Lupe was being released, a security guard told his family he was “one of the best people he had encountered. He told a story about how Don Lupe bought instant soups and shared it with other inmates, and that he offered consolation to people who did not have any family to visit them.”
Don Lupe shared that one detained man who volunteered to be deported due to unbearable conditions had to wait months.
“This is a business and it is all about money,” Don Lupe said. “There are a lot of things that are inhumane. It is more beneficial for [the business] for him to be in prison.”

For what it’s worth, as a commander and officer it was my duty, moral obligation, and legal requirement to first question and then to not obey any illegal order I was given.
