but I wish it were that simple.
It's not just war around the globe, but current-gen policing in America, and basic "how do we treat each other".

Best way I can put it is how Patrick Skinner (@SkinnerPm) who is a cop but ex-USCG+CIA puts it on Twitter: "All of us matter, or none of us do."

New — I was fortunate to speak in front of students and faculty at Grinnell College in Iowa tonight about the business of independent journalism, the current state of media under Trump 2.0, and billionaire control.

I published my full speech because I thought it might resonate beyond campus:
Truth, morality and independence in journalism under the second Trump regime
My full remarks to students and faculty at Grennell College.

European badgers. Sophisticated, handsome, look like they drink gin and tonics.

American badgers. Uncouth, violent, look like they drink Everclear and Meth by the pint.

If you are new to IT, I would ask you to be on the lookout for someone willing to teach you esoterics.

Because I am now in the senior principal position. And I am begging anyone to learn what I know, because I am the only one that does.

I previously tried to teach someone but they washed-out.

I wrote legal editorials for the Post for a hot minute many years ago, and I was constantly anxious about making sure I got the details right. This editorial is just humiliating for everyone involved

I spent more than a decade at The Post. It was good to me and I was proud to work there. I’ve largely refrained from being critical since I left. But this framing of the special counsel probe is embarrassing and flatly wrong. Stunning, but not. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
Opinion | Jack Smith’s lawfare and James Comey’s arraignment on pathetically weak charges
Good people will be deterred from public service if they see a meaningful risk of winding up in jail afterward.

it's crazy how fast movies become dated. for instance, the 2021 movie "Don't Look Up" no longer makes sense, because if an American scientist discovered a planet-killing comet heading towards us today, their main response would be "oh thank fuck for that"

This is the dehumanizing rhetoric that both Hailey and the person she was QPing were discussing. Neither of them are talking about dehumanizing "AI" or "robots". They are talking about dehumanizing the Black people, Mexican people, and gay people whom the slurs that were altered target.

It is not actually good for you to rehearse racist sentences like "those damn [slur]s are taking our jobs" just by substituting the word that goes before "-back" because it legitimizes the actual racist sentence and moves you closer to "a person who says racist sentences about actual people".

DRF for the 25th when Kim Il Sung died. Alert cycle launched so our battalion would be wheels up in 18 hrs. I was an antitank team leader & when I weighed my ruck for the loadmaster, it came in at ~ 140 # incl. 1 Dragon round & the thermal sight. So thankful we “light infantry” didn’t have to go.

Someone should tell this dude that air burst munitions are not new. How much heavier do you want soldier load? How does this affect mobility? Survivability? You protect troops against these threats long before they are in contact. Soldier load a persistent challenge.

two images of a small cathode ray tube. the upper image shows that it is nearly as small as a ball-point pen, starting out at the same diameter but flaring out into a tiny screen that is about 10mm in diameter. the bottom image shows the same CRT cut in half, with a complex array of small metal electron lenses.

Ellis highlights the attacks Reverend David Black has suffered at the Broadview facility, finding plaintiffs have sufficiently alleged that the feds' use of force against praying people "substantially burdens their excercise of religion."
