My no-fun-at-parties take is that "christmas is a secular holiday" is an uncomfortable way of assuring me that christianity is the status quo and everything outside of that is an aberration. Sorry! It's still a christian holiday!! Just because you're an atheist doesn't make it secular!

senior year of college, a friend and i were discussing our theses when a stranger asked if we were using ai. we said no, we were both studying creative writing. he asked us why we wouldn't use ai, and i couldn't get him to understand that we actually wanted to write, that writing was the point
That’s the other thing that baffles me about AI and creative writing, actually.
The work IS the joy for me. I don’t want to be able to snap my fingers and have a completed “product.” I want to be transformed by the process. I’m an author but I do this because I enjoy the rigor of being a writer.
