My grandfather was a conscientious objector. He was disowned by his family and forced to work on a farm for years. But no yeah I'm sure these 23 year old children who signed up to work for the imperialism factory are worth sympathy or something, what choice did they have?

My other grandfather had tuberculosis which is also a more honourable choice than continuing to serve in the US military so I guess I'm saying you have a lot of options and places to draw inspiration from.

Aside from my earlier immediate anger at this, I think it's worth noting that the United States needs us, and Europe, and the rest of the Anglosphere, a hell of a lot more than we need the United States.
