This is a big deal in Japanese politics. Komeito has been a constant companion for the LDP, and its ability to organize and deliver votes at a block-by-block level is frighteningly good. There's no ready substitute for what Komeito does, so Takaichi better start cutting deals or skip green bananas.

How do I explain to offline people that my favorite Japanese mascot said "we can only be liberated from queer oppression if we are truly seen as human" and then started wielding fireworks like a rocket launcher on the side of a mountain without sounding like I've totally lost it?

Chiitan has a dream.
I hope that one day the term LGBT will become a thing of the past.
I will continue to spread my message until we live in a world where everyone can love freely and is free from persecution and discrimination.
Until then, let's all support each other🤍

I'd bet folding money that Earle-Sears thinks the 'real' discrimination is Christians not being allowed to discriminate against LGBTQ when and where they see fit.

Thiessen having a good chuckle about his fired liberal colleagues - some of whom he worked with for 15 years - is a good reminder that token conservatives at mainstream news outlets are/were there to destroy them, not to contribute to them.

One cool feature of Steam is they provide a Harassment Zone for each game you announce. It's a place for people who hate progress to come and crap all over games they haven't even played. No, they won't help you moderate it, but hey, at least you can't delete it!

The same people who turned "safe space" into an object of ridicule and lectured others about their "echo chambers" sure do like to seal themselves off from the outside world whenever the melanin rises above Mayberry levels. But I'm sure Lee Greenwood and Ted Nugent will put on a great show.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

And y'know, for folks who are covering indie games, it doesn't seem to get the eyeballs that deliberate provocative content does, the algorithms seem to boost those content mill channels. But getting views for covering niche subjects such as new indie games? That's an uphill struggle.

It's a far more speedy process to create content if you're just relaying rumours or bullshit than if you're taking time to properly cover games, which would involve playing it and at the very least having enough written about it for first impressions. But for ragebait? Playing a game is redundant.

As well as this, I feel quite strongly that the increased prominence in recent years of social media influencers who engage in nothing but ragebait content and harassment has proverbially sucked all the air out of the room, content mills producing bullshit at speed who dominate gaming conversations.

“Why isn’t anyone covering our indie games?”

1. The gaming press has been decimated by business suits, and the whims of an uncaring search engine behemoth
2. Doing the job means you get death threats and harassment
3. There are more games released in 1 week than there were in entire months in 2015

There's a village in central Nebraska whose name is spelled C-A-I-R-O. Pronounce it like the Egyptian city? Tourist. Locals pronounce it KAY-roh.
(We don't talk about Norfolk. Even Nebraskans can't agree on how it's pronounced.)

If you are willing to throw away entire groups of people to protect your insular strategy that will only protect you instead of protecting everyone then I don’t want your leaders and I sure as hell don’t want to be associated with you.
talleststone.bsky.social
I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.

Between this and A24 launching an AI division, it's been a bad few months for indie horror darlings.
trooperbari.bsky.social
"The consumer does not care if what they're looking at is AI." Tell me you spend more time around venture capitalists and Silicon Valley tech bros than real people without, etc. and so forth. Another mind lost to the fiction of flooding the zone at minimal cost to create maximum profit.
britthates.bsky.social
Jason Blum's take on AI sucks. an AI takeover isn't inevitable, and treating it as such (while also referring to filmmaking as "content creation," smdh) helps AI companies promote the lie that their deeply unprofitable, destructive tech is more powerful and useful than it actually is.
