Day 1 of #NYCNurseStrike! Thousands of nurses walked the picket line in the largest nurses strike in NYC history.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to demand fair contracts with the safe staffing, healthcare benefits, and real workplace protections for nurses and patients.

America is now at the heavily armed secret police doing warrantless door-to-door house raids in search of undesirable ethnicities and/or political dissenters stage. The difference from well known historical cases is down to scale.
A video of ICE agents conducting door-to-door searches today in Minneapolis

The homeowner requests a warrant repeatedly, is told they don't require one, then is told they're getting it, then the agents storm in anyway

They also point a taser at her to try and disrupt filming

AOC: I want everybody to understand that the cuts to your health care are what’s paying for this. You get screwed over to pay a bunch of thugs in the street that are shooting mothers in the face.

"rationing by inconvenience": health insurers deny tons of claims -- including retroactive denial after prior authorization -- knowing tons of patients won't effectively appeal

Here is the CBS Sunday Morning piece for which I was interviewed about findings from my book Coverage Denied. Health insurance barriers ration health care by inconvenience, imposing hurdles to get prescribed care with administratively burdensome appeals many can’t navigate. youtu.be/SRPOoPDN-7w?...

This is Minneapolis:

-drop the kids off for a day with their grandparents
-go to brunch with your wife
-get a text from neighbors who don’t have enough food & can’t leave home or they might be abducted by fed govt
-get groceries as helicopters roar overhead
-deliver food & this vehicle passes you

There's a really exhausting and frustrating refusal of some Americans to contend with what is very clearly happening there re: fascism. Secret police shooting a woman in the face for no reason is not "bait." The invasion of Venezuela is not "a distraction from the Epstein files."
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says 29 people were arrested in downtown last night during a noise demonstration at a hotel reportedly housing ICE agents: "For those that are taking the bait and causing property damage or otherwise, there are consequences. We're holding the line here all the way."

The U.S. naval blockade of Venezuela has already cost taxpayers $700 million.

And the cost is of this operation is increasing by $9 million every day.

[S] No exaggeration: this is the single most important mass mobilization of this era. Stoking fear is all they have. If you haven't attended a gathering like this before, please consider it--we're pretty much EVERYWHERE. And pass it along to 3 friends!
We’re mobilizing across the country this weekend to honor Renee Nicole Good, demand accountability for ICE’s killing of Renee, and make visible the human cost of ICE’s terror: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

A gentle reminder in your grief that Renee Good was out there to protect her Black and brown neighbors from ethnic cleansing. That is still the mission.

The focus should remain on slowing down the ethnic cleansing campaign and on protecting Black and brown families and communities from destruction.

I wish people were as horrified about immigrants being kidnapped and killed in detention centers as they are about this shooting at the same time I am very glad there is finally some larger momentum building against this and I hope it sustains.

what this should make clear to everyone in this country is that it does not matter who you are, there's no "it could never happen to me"

you can be a white woman who drives around with stuffed animals in her car, and they will still kill you in cold blood and call you a domestic terrorist
The murdered woman's glove compartment is filled with stuffed animals.

Evergreen:

The first thing cops say after an incident is always a lie.
Black folk will tell you: The 1st thing cops say after an incident is always a lie.🤷🏿‍♂️

They lie because there's upside in it for them, and no downside.

No matter how many times they get caught lying, newspapers will print their next lie as the gospel truth.🤡

And people stop caring before truth hits
ICE lied about the person it shot, claiming he was a "criminal," but NBC finds that he had no criminal history whatsoever. Not even traffic tickets in 12 years! It also lied about the extent of the injuries to its agents....

Renee Nicole Good was 37. She was murdered by an ICE agent in the street in broad daylight. What really happened to her will not be forgotten, minimized, or ignored.

Look at the hundreds of people in that community in Minneapolis who ran TOWARDS the danger. Look at those who documented in their heads what happened so they could accurately recount it afterwards, look at those currently out protesting. Pay attention & do your part too.

Governor, do better. The protests are already violent. ICE is the violence. They literally steal parents and leave children alone. They starve people, kill them with medical neglect, deprive them of due process.
Deploy the Guard, please. To constrain & detain ICE. They brought the bullets.
Governor Walz says he's prepared to deploy the Minnesota National Guard if protests become violent in reaction to ICE fatally shooting a woman in Minneapolis.

"We will not take the bait," adds Walz, saying he's also angry but demonstrations should remain lawful.

A Black man named Keith Porter was shot and killed by an ICE officer on New Year’s Eve.

Marimar Martinez was shot five times by an ICE officer in Chicago who went on to brag about leaving seven holes in her body.

This is not new but it is expanding.
Your reminder that what happened to Renee Nicole Good is something that happens regularly in America. This is not new, but it is an expanded version of militarized people targeting Black people in particular.

From ICE detention to murder with impunity, we've been doing it. Now it's broadened.

A year ago today was the start of violent, terrorizing raids in California’s rural Central Valley. Violent federal agents were hunting down farm workers like animals.

Today, they’re in the streets of Minneapolis. Our communities should not be enduring this. None of us are safe until all of us are.

Hey, get that flu shot. Knowing folks who are catching this current flu and it's kicking them in the teeth -- the shot will, worst case scenario, prevent it from taking you to the hospital or the morgue. It might knock it out quicker for you or even help you duck catching it. (Mask up, too.)

Writing this out to remind myself:

Everything is going to get very, very shitty BECAUSE this administration is failing.

They will make ALL the poor decisions. They will hurt ALL the people.

As they get more desperate, they will flail and lash out more.

We can’t lose hope. We must keep going.
