Software engineer, transit enjoyer, sometimes I climb rocks and get in sword fights. All opinions are my own.
Finished the diaper bag on the same day we went into the hospital, now that's timing! #craftsky

I talk to my students about this on the first day, and use it to discuss why they are in college in the first place.

Hot take: even the absolute best billion dollar LLMs absolutely suck ass at writing code. Like, a college sophomore will produce a better module than the best fanciest most expensive model. Having now spent time with claude, codex, and antigravity, they all suck and should not be used in production.

Nothing to see here, just a right wing hyper-nationalist government going to their party’s youth event sponsored by a group with a martyred leader they’ve pledged to avenge, recruiting people to join their masked police force devoted to removing auslanders from ze homeland.

A roman senator, watching Niro play his fiddle while rome burns, "it'll take years to recover from this!"
This is the case all across the federal government. It will take decades just to get back to where we were before, the envy of the world with our scientific innovation wich drove our economy.
““The loss of talent is setting the agency back a decade plus,” said David Kessler, a former agency commissioner. “It is not going to be fixable in the short term.””

For the last month or so I've been using Cursor to develop a side project. At first it felt amazing, things were moving at the speed of light and the code it was writing seemed fairly reasonable, but now that the codebase is maybe 10k lines the whole house of cards is starting to fall.

You can measure the quality of news outlets' political coverage by how often they write headlines starting with the words "Trump says" that don't show any skepticism about what Trump is saying even though he's the most prominent American liar of modern times.

I want to say nightmare blunt rotation, but this is the blunt rotation from the 9th circle of hell
Only NYT could create such a hellish collection of people.

Stealing this idea...making it smutty...

On your knees.

Good. Now kneel.

Beg for more.

Good. Don't move.

Quiet. Eyes up.

This couple needs to be on motivational posters, never let anyone tell you the hot girl is out of your league.
I can’t emphasize enough how much you need to watch this until the end

This whole so-called “parents rights” movement the right has taken up and the left is supposed to kowtow to for votes is so obviously anti-child it really bothers me to see it presented as anything other than justification for abusive “parenting” and disregard for actual science on child development

I find it satisfying knowing that all my absolute dogshit but filled unfinished side projects on GitHub have made it into the training dataset for all these billion dollar coding models

As the High Pope of the Church of Discordia, I'm here to tell you that All Statements Are True.
The thing about truth is that it’s immutable. Trying to dissolve it is like trying to drain the ocean. Sure you can nibble around the edges but eventually some combination of politics (best case), economics (bad case), or physics (worst case) returns everyone to reality.
This is maybe the one area of my life where I am a genuine pessimist. I think the dissolution of truth is inevitable in a world where almost all information flows through the internet, but even so I am dismayed that conservatives are right now trying like hell to own and hasten that process.

How about we go back to Reagan era income tax levels and build some fucking public transit?
how about we make rich people pay taxes and use the proceeds to nationalize the healthcare system
“There’s a public health imperative to quickly expand the adoption of autonomous vehicles.”

Would the author say the same about building bike lanes? Installing automatic traffic cameras? Requiring Intelligent Speed Assist?

All of those are proven to save lives — and at a fraction of AVs' cost.
