Don't have much energy to post for Detrans Awareness Day, in part because it's instrumentalisation by the Right is very tiresome. So I come back to this passage from my essay 'Detrans/Uncis':

turns out when you legitimate a taste for bigotry people gravitate to the parties that serve it as an entree rather than as a garnish
"To the contrary, voters are on average more likely to defect to the radical right when mainstream parties adopt anti-immigration positions, a pattern that has been particularly pronounced for established RRPs."

Fascism, but make it incredibly more stupid and whiner.

Further thoughts,

a major issue with getting your leftism online is a lack of understanding organizing, which means calling in people of ALL political persuasions

talk to an organizer IRL, *of course* you need to be kind to liberals, most liberals are working class
These are the people you’re talking about when you blanket condemn all “liberals,” by the way - I bet you money these women almost all proudly identify as liberals and would be *mystified* by the extremely online idea that that’s somehow a bad thing.
Someone in the crowd started an anti-trans rant at the Markey town hall and was immediately swarmed by a bunch of older lib women who shouted her down and chased her out, like a bunch of crows chasing away a predator.

the problem with the "trans sports participation is a loser / 80-20 issue" framing is that it ignores how it got that way. it didn't just happen out of nowhere. It's been a 5+ year campaign by Republicans to make it an 80-20 issue, and noone fought back.

Academics working on detrans research, cis and trans alike, please call in your colleague and get him to get his shit together because providing cover for him only further contributes to the damage done to trans and detrans people by presenting him as more affirming than he actually is.

the truth is that trans society is never going to convince the greater cis society to unconditionally accept them/us. especially nonbinary people.

it’s not an excuse for genocide, it just is what it is.

A Jewish billionaire from a big city is not who you expect to be the face of a popular opposition, but he is about to be a star of the opposition because he's saying plain truths about what Trump and his ilk offer America. This playbook isn't hard. More Dems should run it.
The root that tears apart your foundation begins as a seed of distrust, hate, and blame.

The seed that grew into a dictatorship in Europe didn’t arrive overnight.

It started with everyday Germans mad about inflation and looking for someone to blame.

There is grace and beauty, also, in the world.

would be nice if 1) the sidewalks and bike lanes get cleared and 2) infrastructure is designed with the fact that it snows in mind (bc there’s always snow getting dumped from the road to the bike lanes, and from the bike lanes to the sidewalks.
5 days post storm, most bike lanes are not rideable, sidewalks on major routes like Harbord still unusable. Embarrassing. Who's up for a little community bike lane clearing Sunday?

I remember reading about the LRT project in the Spec when i was like 10 (i had a thing for reading the paper as a kid, very autistic of me)

I’m closer to 30 now lol
The Feds announced high speed rail between Toronto and Montreal today. Call me cynical, LRT was first announced in Hamilton around when I drew the 2nd cartoon in 2008 and ground hasn’t even broken. I’ll believe both projects when I see them done.

we should be making American/Canadian society more walkable, it’s messed how car-centric things are, but also why are we arresting parents for giving their kids independence that was normal like 30 years ago, when the same safety issue still existed.
Police are out here charging parents with reckless endangerment for letting their kids walk home along a road with no sidewalk.

So even the police know it, even if they would rather foolishly address the symptoms rather than the causes.
