Through the looking glass on this. Grok is not a sentient entity, does not "understand" what occurred (or anything else), and thus cannot be quoted or explain what happened

I actually think it's time to bring back the approach of curated lists and webrings from the early web again. Huge opportunity space for hand curation of information
In an age where AI slop websites have made entire categories of information difficult to find, what we need is Yahoo (or Dmoz): a human-curated list of reliable websites, organized by topic.

"2026" is a pretty futuristic-sounding year. 2027 is not. I can't explain this. The next big one is 2031. 2049 is gonna be huge.

Donald Trump is going to threaten to bomb a different country every 12 hours until he finds the one that will make everyone stop talking about how he raped kids.

Real idiocracy hours; at least pine for some time when playtime relied on kids' imagination, not plunking in front of the TV to watch IP and commercials.
Like, are any material conditions, no matter how good, going to fix whatever mental condition this is?

I see a growing number of obviously AI generated ads, and it always makes me think two things: (1) This is a rinky-dink outfit that can't afford to film a commercial with real sets and actors, and more importantly (2) They are lying to me even more than ads usually do.

What amazes me is how quickly people are losing either the confidence or the willingness to complete basic human tasks.

2 things:

1) Joel is right here in that AI is a "restorative" nostalgia (from Svetlana Boym) machine, in that it produces a past that never existed & tries to drag it into the present

2) the crusade imagery is violent white supremacy (see next post)
It’s quite telling that so many right-wing dealers in nostalgia are embracing the aesthetics of modern AI-generated art. Can’t actually find real images of the imagined past to which you want us to return? No problem; just generate it with AI.

Seems bad there’s apparently a single person on this planet who would be handwaved by both our media and our government for owning a website that now lets anyone just create child pornography on demand since that exact person is, you know, fucking doing that.

Grok can't apologize. Grok can, when prompted, generate a word sequence that is statistically similar to the colloquial phrases we think of as "apologies," but Grok cannot actually apologize because Grok isn't sentient. But we all have a lot of trouble with this because we assume sentience IS speech

this is such an important thing to recognize and call out

the fascism is mostly done being nice at this point, but it got here through well dressed men politely asking questions while the rest of us were scolded for pointing out where those questions led
Mamdani: For too long, those fluent in the good grammar of civility have deployed decorum to mask agendas of cruelty

like 75% of dem messaging right now should be “the party led by epsteins best friend is breaking into pre-k childcare centers so they can record your toddlers and put the videos on internet”
uhhh yeah I can see why these childcare properties weren't eager to let in some rando dudes asking "where are the kids?"

Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.
