What Zoe says here is important: if you're extending sympathy to the student here, what good is that doing for the student and their academic future? This person is a psych major, presumably wanting to go into therapy. If you're not able to think well, how are you gonna help people with their needs?
I’m going to throw nuance on nuance here.
Not all sincerely-held religious beliefs have a place in the marketplace of ideas. Some of them are offensive and should be called out as such.

It is incredibly strange that these schools seem to factor in zero reputational, enrollment, or recruitment damage to their “settling with Trump” equation, when clearly there’s a major hit to all three.

every trans person i see post about the OU suspension knows that the suspended target is trans & a grad student, & has an innate awareness that this is about purging trans employees. every cis person i see thinks the target is a rando professor & that this is about giving conservatives good grades
