I wrote this for the 75th anniversary of the "end" of World War II. it's relevant always, but especially in light of this "administration" redacting history that will not be forgotten as long as I live:
75 Years On, We’re Still Fighting the Battles of World War II
“The war never ended,” I tell people. “It just went underground.”

If one person starts yelling, it’s easy from there. Don’t be afraid to be the first person to start yelling at a Nazi
A guy ran into a classroom at the University of Washington threw up Nazi salutes, yelled a bunch of slurs, then roughly 30 students chased him down, got him arrested.

precisely my thought. the president and his dumbass republican allies put these men and women into harm’s way for a political stunt and look what has happened
Whether this was random street crime or targeted political violence, I think it was bad for the president to unnecessarily put the National Guard in harm’s way like this. They simply don’t need to be there.

"Are the risks greater of claiming grief is expressed by this mother, or of denying her these emotions completely?"

I love my brilliant friend @sabs.bsky.social and I love this absolute heartbreaker of a piece. "Anthropodenialism" is a concept that will live in my brain for a long time.

This is horrible - these are dissertation grants for PhD students, who have few options to get funding for research.
The NSF Bio Anthro Program DDRIG, Cultural Anthrpology DDRIG, and Archaeology DDRIG have all been archived (as of yesterday afternoon). Please speak with your grad students and plan accordingly. To say I am angry and depressed about this is an understatement.

Lots of people sharing this clip because it's funny and cathartic but I also genuinely believe it's important.

We have to win the narrative battle between "I live in a corrupt society and that's just how it is" and "I live in a corrupt society and we are going to defeat and humiliate these ghouls."
Good morning to Brazilian reporter Manuela Borges, who’s been waiting eleven years for this petty moment. ❤️ 🇧🇷

Look I don't enjoy losing respect for people who've decided to boost "AI" and throw away whatever credibility they may have earned in their field, but they're making their choices, and being nice to them isn't going to change their minds
people are angry that chatbots are being thrust on them; that the industry is unregulated; that it’s deskilling young people; is being used as a weapon against labor and popular gAI is built on theft of the work of millions of artists and authors.

You don’t get to demand civility.
Wow 80% bad-faith responses, and people lecturing the creator of Flask here and the creator of Django/datasette in the comments on why AI is useless for software engineering...

I have often seen masculinity, conventional version, as a constant renunciation, in return for corrosive power. All the things you're not allowed to like, enjoy, do, say, wear, but (metaphorically speaking) this straitjacket comes with a gun.
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

Writing about people donating trash is — and I kid you not — the only thing (so far) to almost get me fired. White people were LIVID. And organized to get my university fired for it.

This is the holy grail of whiteness, patriarchy, and capitalism in some surprising ways.

Bless that prof!
I had a womens studies professor try to coax a class to understand that it’s not ’wrong’ for an alcoholic homeless person to take your change you tossed and spend it on alcohol. People were livid lol. It really changed my perspective on giving. its freeing to give without expectation.
