Yeah, I believe this. Part of the incompetency being her not considering the optics of her spiking the segment at the last minute given everything leading up till now.
My hottest take is that Weiss fucked up the story less out of direct political motivation than out of the pattern of incompetent management everywhere: insisting on changes to something at the last minute in order to demonstrate your authority and make it seem as if you have something to contribute.

I suspect that the political failures of Bidenomics (POLITICAL failures, mind you, not ECONOMIC) is pretty conclusive proof that in the 2020s, American voters regard themselves first and foremost as consumers, not as workers.

this was the Biden administration's plan and look where it got us lol
Because the rights of the workers help protect the rights of LGBTQ, POC, disabled, and other marginalized people while also helping people of all earning levels. Focusing on workers rights can help solve issues like climate change through worker specific climate initiatives and jobs programs

As someone in our discord server put it, it’s important to avoid both apologist and pathologizing. Neither are a useful path to understanding how the system actually operated or why, e.g., North Korea is still around today despite making many of the same (bad) choices as the USSR
How the fuck is Liberal Currents publishing the most charitable take on Soviet planning and political economy that I've ever heard?
Neon Liberalism #57: It's time to look back at the first Cold War and try to understand why America won—and, more importantly, why the USSR lost. Samantha and guest Yakov Feygin talk about the fundamental story of Soviet economic success, stagnation, and ultimate implosion.

The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.

"Get the principals on camera" is such a telling phrase here, because it tells us that for Weiss there's no world in which the victims of these horrific actions can actually be seen as the subjects of the story: They're background noise, and the people who matter are the ones sending them.
Weiss concluded: “We need to be able to make every effort to get the principals on the record and on camera. To me, our viewers come first, not a listing schedule or anything else. And that is my North Star, and I hope it's the North Star of every person in this newsroom.”

One More Hour (60 Minutes)

Bari Weiss’s politics have become as subtle as Janet Weiss’s drumming in Sleater-Kinney, as this Modern Girl seems more concerned with the Brownsteins of Portlandia than the brownshirts of Washington. Someone dig me out of this dystopia.

we don't need to send her to jail we can let negative polarization take everything she's ever cared about bsky.app/profile/esgh...
what you have to understand about bari weiss is that she exclusively cares about getting invited to interesting and exclusive dinner parties. so take some consolation in knowing the fact that sometime in the near future she will never get invited to a fancy dinner party again

I don't want to single this person out because they're polite and well-intentioned, but one of the worst reading habits I see regularly is when people assume every description of a problem also includes an implicit assignment of moral blame.

Like if I squint I can see maybe an implication that “without setting up housing” means “could have but didn’t,” but I think one half second of thought would make it clear that’s not what he meant.

negatively polarizing yourself so hard against Sunrise teens who annoyed you six years ago that green capitalists write public missives explaining in excruciating detail how you're a dumb fraud is impressive work though ngl
the thing that sticks out to me most is how transparently annoyed and contemptuous Casten's entire thread is. it's not just that he doesn't agree with Yglesias, he also doesn't respect him.

The thing that MattY has a deep investment in downplaying is that Biden/Harris did exactly what he wanted—don’t relitigate the old regime’s crimes and outrages, forget the principles of civic faith, just focus on delivering good economic outcomes to the normies and let those speak for themselves
what the Ds need is a *program for fighting fascism that is not just winning the next election.* That's where they continue to struggle.

the core divide on this website is just whether or not you know what a statistical survey is
this is why people see liberals as out of touch elites

you can provide the numbers to say things are going great when any person on the street can tell you its not. those statistics are meaningless if they dont reflect lived reality
