Turns out the media & most of Parliament is as out of touch with reality as Twitter. Dear England.
Why do people think England flags have been raised on lampposts?

White adults
National pride: 26%
Anti-migrant/minority sentiment: 49%
Both: 19%

Ethnic minority adults
National pride: 15%
Anti-migrant/minority sentiment: 55%
Both: 20%

What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

Glad that someone has finally taken responsibility for the appalling assault on democracy that was the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Slightly confused that it's the Director-General of the BBC, but what do I know?

“In the last year of the Conservative Government alone, 115 prisoners were released in error, including a series of serious offenders.

“At no point did this fact ever make the front pages of British newspapers, or lead news bulletins on the BBC.”

Legia Warsaw banned from Villa Park due to violence

Frankfurt fans are banned from the Napoli game in a few weeks due to violence

Away fans are banned at every Old Firm game due to violence.

Barcelona banned from travelling for one game due to racism.

All in the last 2 years.

Lisa Nandy: "He's right to say that it is unprecedented in recent times that an entire group of away supporters have been entirely banned from a game"

Unprecedented in recent times? In 2023 Legia Warsaw fans were banned from a game at Villa Park.

Thank you.

“Nigel Farage says….” has been the headline of the decade.
Look at what he does, ffs.
Look at his tax affairs.
Look at his grifting.
Look at his lies.
Look at his prejudice.
Look at his allies.
Look at his manifesto.
Look at his Brexit.
He is the embodiment of personal greed and national failure.

It is very nearly the tenth anniversary of that brief moment when, for 2 or 3 days, British newspapers remembered refugees are desperate human beings who need our help, rather than scum that it's okay to threaten with violence.

Just seen A Beautiful Thread, Thomas Hardy in Words & Music, with the wonderful Anton Lesser. Excellent choice of readings, some haunting music and lots of humour! Fabulous evening, do see it if you can.

This.

Those with power do not want others to have human rights - the rights you have because you are human.

That is why they sneer at human rights, use the media and propaganda to deride those rights, and cut off legal aid so the rights cannot be asserted.

And some unwise people clap and cheer.
The assertion of human rights is normally unpopular with those in power. That’s why we have them.

I loved this, kept the tension throughout as it built to its dramatic, violent denouement, playing straight through without an interval. Great performances and really well staged.
Press night for Edward II at The RSC's Swan Theatre. It's gripping & intense set in current times. Rebels betray a King over his sexuality. RSC co-artistic director Daniel Evans plays Edward with vulnerability amid raw passion & explicit violence not for faint-hearted. Til April 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #theatresky
