With a thousand apologies to the great @scottmccloud.bsky.social, Assorted Crisis Events 8 (out next month) is many things, but among them an ode to Understanding Comics, probably the most important comics text of all time, one I learn from each time I go back.

It will be printed on newsprint!

Wishing them every success. Chicago has a wealth of "alternative/art house/repertory" movie venues. However, @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social is the only one that seems to advertise, promote, communicate, generate social media buzz, AND show movies I want to see, WHEN I WANT TO SEE THEM.
As many movie theaters struggle, Chicago’s Music Box is expanding into Minnesota and adding a third screen in Lake View. “We seem to be doing something right here,” Music Box’s co-owner and CEO Brody Sheldon said.
Can Music Box CEO Brody Sheldon, a second-generation movie buff, build a mini-empire of historic theaters?

Reagan funded and armed death squads, left Americans to die during the AIDS crisis, destroyed the economic tools that built the 20th century, his allies committed treason in 1980 (at the bare minimum, above that Reagan might have been involved) and pioneered "own the libs" politics.
The presidency once served as a reminder of our common humanity. Ronald Reagan described its purpose as building "a nation composed of good and decent people."

Reading "The Demon" by Jack Kirby and it really is the kind of horror comic you could only get from the King. 16 issues and here we go.

I would be a Tiktoker or actor if I wanted to be on video.
I just don’t want “film a video and hope it goes viral” to be a “reasonable” expectation of authors!! I hate being on video! I am too awkward for video!

A million Muslims live in New York City. We belong here, as does every other New Yorker.

This is vile Islamophobia from the Councilwoman and it has no place in our city.

Finding out Rob Reiner died is not the way I really wanted to end an evening. I grew up with him primarily for his work in All in the Family re-runs, but I don't know if we can even quantify properly how much impact he had over decades as a creative and political figure...

He's also responsible for raising all the money that paid for bringing Hollingsworth v. Perry & even more importantly Bostic v. Schaefer, which created the circuit split that forced SCOTUS to take on Obergefell v. Hodges. The role he played in American marriage equality cannot be overstated.
The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

Wrote about how the late, great Rob Reiner had the most impossible 7-movie beginning to any director's career, and yet that's not even what he was most famous for:

This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

I support this in theory but not in practice under current conditions. Things like “I have depression but can’t afford treatment” should not be how this goes yet that’s exactly the sort of outcome you get far too often

Finally catching up on D20 Fantasy High and I'm somewhat annoyed it took me this long to get into it. It's such a good synergy between players and DM.

Racists are not being let go for "thought crimes." They are being let go (IF they are even let go) for racist ACTIONS that harm business and people. If you don't want my business, just say so. Like Target did. But you don't deserve my money and the opportunity to abuse me.
