Free Planet began as a simple idea--"scifi GI Joe defending space Venezuela"--with a resource-rich but financially poor planet struggling to maintain its independence. It begins with the abduction of one of the planet's leaders.

2026 is already proving it more prescient than I would have hoped.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is really hitting me in the places where I live as far as the US as an exploitative war profiteer country goes. Kind of insane how they predicted the curve despite it being Platinum...

About 800 people march in NYC to protest ICE just hours after the murder of Renee Nicole Good in Minnesota.

ICE just killed a legal observer—allegedly blocking her from medical care and letting her die.

This is horrifying. ICE is a rogue agency incapable of reform. Minneapolis Mayor Frey is calling for ICE to vacate the city and I echo that call.

I don't know that they plan on saying anything publicly or speaking officially to industry press, but it has come to my attention that someone at DC Comics is back-channeling that I've already been paid. I haven't been paid a cent since July of last year, and that was for old work.

I might have to make Sopranos my obsession again for awhile. Or not, I'm actually enjoying watching new things for a change instead of blasting my brain with reruns.
January 7, 2026 at 12:02 AM
Sopranos. That is all.
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

The period after the most destructive war ever fought led to the extermination of whole peoples based on bigoted ideas? That period?

I really wish people understood how the war impacted society. The amount of human suffering and misery. They weren’t soft. It was profound trauma.
Stephen Miller: This whole period that happened after World War II where the West began apologizing and groveling and begging—

Host: I don't even know what you're talking about right now. I asked you if there would be an election in Venezuela.

I mean, I personally *would* be ashamed to be hanging around a platform that treats women, even the ones I don't know, like sexual slaves.

At some point in the not to distant future, this will turn to fit extremely harmful narratives to justify violence (e.g. portraying queers as paedophiles)
New with @regret.bsky.social: Grok’s creation of harmful “undress” images is relentless.

Even today, after days of scrutiny, Grok was churning out ‘bikini’ and underwear images of women every few seconds.

Researchers estimate that Grok has become the biggest creator of sexualized deepfake images

Paid tools that “strip” clothes from photos have been available on the darker corners of the internet for years. Elon Musk's X is now removing barriers to entry—and making the results public.

Dissatisfied with their ruling government, a group of small business owners and landowners descend upon the capital in a violent insurrection; it's up to the Freedom Guard to stop them.

Free Planet is vital reading in 2026.
Vol 1 is available everywhere now.
Issue #8 lands in comic shops 1/14.

Imagine losing everything to war and still having to pay rent. Please give what you can to help my friend Sama'a.

My home was destroyed by the occupation, and now I am living in a rented place.

I need to secure $500 to pay the landlord — if I can’t, we will be evicted.

This amount means a safe roof and security for my children. If you can help… your support is life to us.

I think the thing that people need to understand is ultimately Trump is the apotheosis of this paradigm. He was born from the head of Bush like Athena and Zeus. One of the major differences between neoconservatism and this is that Trump doesn't bother with their PR commitments.
Welcome back to 2003. Some of us have been writing for a decade that MAGA & neoconservatism were united in supremacist militarism with the differences being a struggle for internal power and if you want to know more I can recommend a pretty good book:

I love how not serving in Vietnam is Bartlett's one actually good quality and in West Wing, he constantly gets ruthlessly shanked for it. Including by himself. Makes me wonder if Sorkin is even aware of what happened in Vietnam.

Tough call but probably Howl's Moving Castle with The Wind Rises by a hair behind.
In honor of Hayao Miyazaki's birthday, what's your favorite Studio Ghibli film? Doesn't have to be the one you think is "the best," just the one that nestled in your heart. Mine is Howl's Moving Castle.

The best way to promote comics is to talk about what you're reading and what you love.

With that in mind here is my semi-regular rundown of comics I've read recently.

Calling public benefits “entitlements” is just the most contemptible right-wing trash.
No. No. No.

Punitive processes make narrowly targeted programs *less* efficient and *more* costly. Because more scrutiny requires more bureaucracy.

Punitive processes also make it *less* likely that people will get aid for which they qualify. Because of the roadblocks and stigma scrutiny creates.
