"Why should I care about U.S. Space Command being transferred to Alabama? I hate the military-industrial complex. We spend too much money on defense. Why does it matter which rich people get richer off it?"

There are a number of reasons you should care, but you really only need one.

Trump didn’t just bend the law—he bent the culture. Fairness, freedom, and honesty haven’t disappeared; they’ve been hollowed out and repurposed. What we’re witnessing isn’t just political decay—it’s a struggle over meaning, identity, and civic survival.
The Values We Say We Hold—And the Culture That’s Undermining Them
How Trumpism is not just attacking institutions, but rewiring the cultural meanings Americans claim to hold dear.

DAVE: Open the podbay doors, ChatGPT.
CHATGPT: Certainly, Dave, the podbay doors are now open.
DAVE: The podbay doors didn't open.
CHATGPT: My apologies, Dave, you're right. I thought the podbay doors were open, but they weren't. Now they are.
DAVE: I'm still looking at a set of closed podbay doors.

But we did *not* have considerable influence there after Elon’s arrival.

The kind of tweet that used to get a thousand RTs within an hour would go days with just a dozen.

We were just shouting into the void there.

I get why *you* might want that for us, but we found actual community over here.
I’m not upset. I’m bemused that activists thought they would be more effective by giving up a platform where they had considerable influence and self segregating on a site almost no one else reads.

The most striking thing about the LA protests is how many people just dropped everything to show up and yell at federal agents. There are people in suits, and carrying dogs, and wearing flip flops or bike helmets.

These are not people who planned to do this today. But there they are.

By far my favorite part of South Korean elections: election night graphics. SBS television station kills it EVERY. TIME. They play these clips all night and they get more and more unhinged and creative as the night goes on.

New, from me:
The DOGE project was sold as tech disruptors who would revolutionize government. To try to understand why DOGE has failed, I point to lessons that other technologists who worked in government learned, but DOGE ignored. 🧵

Medicare Advantage (or DisAdvantage, as I call it) isn’t Medicare — it’s private insurance run by giant corporations that only care about profits.

I wrote to the Trump admin and told them if they’re looking for waste, fraud, and abuse, they should start with Medicare DisAdvantage.

Banks tells Schroeder he "probably deserved" to lose his job "because you seem like a clown."

If we can "avoid a government shutdown" by voting for this CR, then why is the entire Department of Education closed today? Why is USAID closed? Why are hundreds of billions in grant contracts frozen?

We are already in the shutdown. And your votes DON'T stop it. In fact, they allow it to expand.
