Seeing a lot of pfp's lately so, to help you not look foolish, a reminder:

"Fearless Girl" was a publicity stunt by one of the largest investment banks in the country.

"Charging Bull," on the other hand, was a piece of true guerrilla art piece done by an artist who arrived in the US with nothing.

The top 10% of richest Americans own 87% of stocks.

The top 1% alone own roughly half of all stocks.

It's worth pointing out once again that the stock market is not the economy.

I know it's not going to happen, but in 2026 i'd like to see radio appreciated as a structured, disciplined medium for audio which is properly distinct from waffly, vague and bloated podcast formats. An excess of the latter is at total saturation point, at the expense of everything else.
Even if you *like* the people chattering, is it wrong for me to expect more from Radio 4 than people …chattering?

"Oxford's High Street booming, bucking national trend"

And this in a city where we've removed city centre parking and put in a congestion charge. Almost as if it's people who shop, not cars.

The 8 billionaires are: Musk, Ellison, Bezos, Page, Brin, Zuckerberg, Huang, Ballmer.

Each one saw their wealth explode as a direct result of the massive and unsustainable AI bubble.

Let's resolve to remember that when their bubble bursts all over working people in 2026.

Happy New Year!
"What a year for the ultra wealthy. The world’s 500 richest people added a record $2.2 trillion to their collective fortunes in 2025’s… booming markets, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. And about a quarter of this year’s gains went to just eight billionaires.” — Bloomberg Morning Brief

my favorite thing about the benoit blanc movies is that they aren't really about benoit blanc. he is not grappling with demons from his past. we are not getting flashbacks to the husband whose murder he never solved. he just shows up and does his job like mary poppins for homicides

A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

I dislike AI because it's exploitative, made by the worst people in the world, and used primarily to justify firing people. But it really does not help that almost every AI defense I've seen employs one of several rhetorical moves that immediately make me class the author as an unserious person.

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.
