Here's a painting I made many years ago. Title: Self Portrait With Colorado Pikeminnow (Formerly S***fish)
A painting on a mix of canvas, paper maps, and aluminum foil. On the left, you can see a woman with short hair and a red shirt standing in "water" that is also a topo map of the desert in SW Arizona. The right side shows the underwater version of the scene, with the woman's hip and hand visible. Map markings and notations at a different scale but same general location are painted in front of her body, and on front of those, there is a fish. The middle part of the painting is a somewhat abstract colorblock transition intended to remind one of the water surface. There is some foil in the top middle, with Picacho Peak and the Aerostadt balloon (both landmarks along the lower Colorado River) drawn in black paint pen.

creating art is like, the worst use case I can think of for AI

art is fun! art is the stuff that makes life worth living! art is good and cool and human! it doesn’t even matter if you’re “good” or “bad” at it! why on earth would you want a machine to do the fun stuff for you??

Yeah, that too. Basically the combo of schwa-ing up the vowels and pronouncing the 'll' like in Spanish.
solarpunk-auntie.bsky.social
(Most Arizonans I know pronounce it like 'muggy yawn' or 'mug a yawn')

'Mogollon' definitely comes to mimd

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

this is not a bug, it is a feature

all of these companies have a fucking platform. that's because they are trying to replace direct human-human relationships with mediated human-platform-human transactions

AAAAUGH! The lithops is doing a thing! I was not informed that lithops did things! I thought they just sat there and occasionally sprouted pups like a normal succulent!

Your mistake is in assuming the constitution matters. It turns out it's just some random words on a parchment.

I’m convinced the main reason Miyazaki films have a reputation for being “cozy” in the West is because he actually writes and animates long moments of quiet into his stories, whereas Western animated films are usually a nonstop parade of loud music, sounds, noises and neon colors.

Miyazaki: in this movie two young girls (one is a toddler) are uprooted from everything they know to start new lives near the rural hospital their mother is in; she is possibly dying of TB. Their dad works several hours away and they are largely unsupervised.

AI Bros: so homey! So comfy!

every ai bro who has reduced miyazaki to empty gentle aesthetic should no exaggeration get the judas cradle bc this man's markmaking & passion about telling WAR STORIES

keep calling and telling them to stand strong

the difference between last time (when they got yelled at incessantly for caving) and this time needs to be a chasm in terms of the feedback they're getting from constituents

we can get them to hold

The Feds just arrested the arson suspect for the Palisades fire earlier this year.

What no one else is mentioning is that he was apparently arrested at his FLORIDA residence??

So the Palisades were burnt down by a frigging MAGA white domestic terrorist.

Way to bury the lede here. 🙄

Today's are especially pretty.

I hope this message from the FOP goes big, because it does a lot to sell the idea of "defund the police" to regular folks who've spent their whole lives blithely accepting that cops are on our side

"Tidal Flat" another new #painting which sold last month. I’m drawn to the spaces where land and water argue over sovereignty but peacefully, as in I like the space where there is no resistance and the water comes in and goes out largely as it pleases. #TidesOutTuesday #SpeirGorm #ArtYear
Landscape format in painterly acrylics on backing board. The bottom two thirds is land, a large olive green-brown triangle in the bottom left and the rest is yellow cut up into segments by a network of water channels. The yellow is separated from the olive corner by a midnight blue channel of water which cuts across the yellow sand in a narrow channel near the bottom right and another from the left side, to join up in the distance from where two more thin lines of blue channels head to the very thin sliver of the pale blue sea along the horizon. On either side of the sea are low long dark alizarin promontories and further back in the distance beyond the sea along the horizon is a solid dark blue mass of an undulating mountain range. The sky is mostly a smokey dark grey, albeit lighter than the mountains, with a dark sky blue in the top left corner and touch of pinkish red in the top right. Signed bottom left in magenta on the olive green-brown, Liam Daly

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Air #pollution from 30 years ago is still killing you

Ergo, air pollution today will still be killing you in 30 years
