why don't we just let Planter become the Joe Rogen of the Left and then find another candidate under the age of 70, boom fixed it

If you want people to believe something, you should say it clearly, directly, & repeatedly. If you’re saying something else, you are failing to move people in your direction. Even worse, you are moving them in another direction, shifting the Overton window away from where you want to be.

When you give time and attention to something, you are teaching people that thing is important. That doesn’t mean you should never tackle an opponent’s strengths, but you need to do it thoughtfully, in a way that doesn’t just emphasize how much worse you are.
On a fundamental level this is why "moderate on cultural issues" isn't just insufficient, it's harmful. There's been a lot of dissembling what this moderation looks like in practice (EK trying to dodge with "I'm just using abortion as an example"), but it's going to look something like this:
However, at the Senate and House levels, Dems responded and spent heavily, but with ads that were nearly indistinguishable in message from the right wing ones. After $866 million in attack ads ($729M R, $137M D), the initial public support for mass deportations is unsurprising.

"Dems will get blamed for a shutdown" as opposed to what, all the friendly coverage and positive credit they'd get for caving yet again? This whole premise is built on a delusion about what the alternative is. There's no cowering in the corner and being so inoffensive they won't still attack you.

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.

It's such a strange, revealing argument. Why should any of us give a shit about protecting people in Epstein's files? Why do they think we do? Since when is the most sacred tenet of society "privacy for relationships of the rich & powerful with the pedophile child trafficker"? Reveal them all.
GOP greatly overestimates the number of fucks GenX and younger give about Bill Clinton.

people used to read magazines to learn about cool and interesting things from
people they assumed were cooler and more interesting and more informed than
themselves. now the roles are reversed, and why would anyone want to read something reiterating the obvious

remember folks, we cant have gun restrictions because if we do the federal government will occupy our streets, imprison people without due process, ship dissidents to foreign gulags and things of that nature

People act real shocked when they learn Mississippi has Buddhist, Hindu, and Sikh temples, highest % of Black people in the US at 1/3rd the population, native Choctaw communities, Chinese and Vietnamese communities that go back generations, and LGBTQ Pride events in several towns across the state
It always gets lost in media depictions of small-town USA and our national political discourse, but it's important to remember:

Rural life in the USA isn't just flag-waving blue-collar white people! There are so many other cultural stories in those communities and they deserve way more attention.

if you can't sell the american public on the idea that federal troops in the streets is fundamentally unacceptable then you have no business being in politics. and if you do not forcibly believe this at your core such that you can't shut up about it, that goes double for you
Toxic feedback loop has kicked in: Trump's propagandists tell credulous reporters that occupying cities is good politics for him. Media echoes this as self-evidently true. That reinforces Dem instincts not to engage.

Take away all the GOAT candidates: The Wire, Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Lost.

What’s the best show outside of that group?

this tension is inevitable and emerges from each belief's role in society: liberalism is the tonic you give bureaucrats so they can sign off on imperial conquest without thinking too hard, and to generously hand out the spoils. conservatism is how you discipline or kill anyone who tries to stop it.

people are energized now, they’re angry now, they’re mobilizing in huge numbers now, and they want to see that energy and anger matched in congress. instead they get fundraising pitches and talk of the midterms while the dems execute their “keep your heads down” strategy and it’s just discordant.
i kinda suspect this is actually aimed at demoralized supporters (don’t give up! there’s still lots of good we can do!) but the problem is framing it around the midterms and shunting all responsibility onto the voters to once again bail out the country and the dems while they waste the interregnum
