One thing before tomorrow:

Use your local libraries.

Get your card.

Borrow books, manga, films, audios, ebooks.

Recommend titles for purchase (usually online).

Attend promoted activities.

Fill out those "How are we doing?" questionnaires.

Tell your kids that libraries are good.

They are.

Hint to Dems: "they are going to kill you" counts as a kitchen table issue to voters
if any Democrats besides AOC want to weigh in about the misrule that's already been prevalent over this first week that'd be pretty cool

What is one to conclude from the contrast between the AHA’s position on Ukraine and its position on Gaza other than it believes some people’s histories are worth more than others?

Letters reveal a decadeslong strategy — starting with targeted programs for needy kids then expanding benefits to all families — by politicians, church officials, and activists who all believe that the separation of church and state is illegitimate.

I'm the one humanities major on a STEM team of engineers, and they all treat me like I'm a human wikipedia, without really realizing it. My qualification for this is that I'm moderately well-read on a broader degree of topics than they are, and thus this makes me some kind of sagacious wizard.

The academy is on fire and so many academics shitting on others for trying to engage wider audiences
i find it troubling and counter-productive that some historians are responding to attacks on the profession and study of the past by trying to put up higher walls against "intruders" into the discipline, against popular historical writing 🗃️

Huge scoop by Erin Reed.

Ohio and Michigan Republicans announced their intention to expand bans on gender affirming care to everyone.

This isn't about protecting children, and never was. Bans on youth care were the first step of an attempt by the right to legislate trans people out of existence.

Teaching feudalism is the history equivalent of teaching electrons & protons as balls on sticks. When kids reach the “Actually it’s a weird cloud!” stage it can cause dismay, distrust of science & teachers, & most adults still visualize balls on sticks. False simplifications do long damage.
There was no such thing as feudalism. We've known it for decades. 19 out of 20 students in my freshman seminar were all taught about feudalism in middle school.

We Don’t Talk About Leonard
