This video from @hankgreen.bsky.social is a great metaphor and description of what I think has happened to the Internet, and our overall "consumption" of information, no matter how nutritious or empty the calories of information we consume are.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

No republican should be running unopposed during the next election.

Anywhere. For any position. No matter how small your town is.

A lot of places have the potential to flip after this disaster.

Do it. Run for office.

You are not any less qualified than the people in power right now.

REMEMBER KIDS
when flooding a snitch form, DON’T use obvious troll responses that can be filtered out with a query
Use PLAUSIBLE FAKE data that will take TIME and EFFORT to run down.
This poisons the entire data pool and makes it useless

Maybe the internet isn’t ready for this take but here:

Being mad at how people voted in 2024 instead of at a system that makes it possible for this to happen is exactly the same as being mad at your little brother for misbehaving and pissing off your abusive dad.

You’re actually mad at dad.

This is your daily reminder.

It is time to step away from the internet and pet a cat or something.

A dog also works.

If no pets are available, read a book or bake some bread or something.

Libro is a great alternative to Audible!
We're a registered Social Purpose Corporation, but what does that mean?

We pursue social goals, even if those goals conflict with our financial interests. This is because we deeply care about supporting indie bookshops & local communities.

We hope you'll join us for your audiobook listening ❤️

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent.

Opportunities are everywhere.

Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

Hate leads to burnout, confusion, anxiety and frustration. Love is restorative. Seek justice because you love your neighbor, not because you hate your enemy. This is the key to organizing without falling into despair.

This is the end of an entire thread (that you should read) on basic emergency preparedness, and gives words to something I’ve been feeling in the pit of my soul since November.
by embracing preparedness, you are building mental and physical resiliency for yourself and your community.

agency is, essentially, the opposite of trauma. creating plans and taking steps towards those plans is, in some ways, more important than actually succeeding at those plans. always be trying.

Do you know why a president would do all the most evil and heinous shit via Executive Order? Because his party can't easily make it law. And if they can't make it law, they can't make it last.

Don't let anyone make you feel like this is The End. Do not let them demoralize you. Live to see them die.

Ever wonder what snow in the swamp would look like? This is 5 miles into the Louisiana swamps in the Atchafalaya basin... it's unreal... having lived down there for the first 28 years of my life, we never saw anything like this.

A huge part of self-care under the present circumstances is practicing informational hygiene. Among other things, that includes not swallowing poison.
This is more important now than ever. If I already know what an article is going to say, I *don't read it*.

No point in being reminded of what I already know in ways that are designed to freak me out and prevent me from taking in any actual new info.
Lately I won't read any articles (or listen to podcasts) if I already know what they're gonna say.

I also don't consume any news media unless I can tell that there's actually news. As in, something has changed has there's new information.

This has made my information diet way better. #d

Mutual aid is not just a disaster response, it’s a way of caring for one another, building stronger communities, and preparing for whatever life may throw at us next. It’s a labor of love—and a way of life.

We Only Have Ourselves: The How-Tos and DOs and DON’Ts of Mutual Aid
For all of humanity’s many, many flaws, one of our most redeeming characteristics as a species is an almost-universal desire to connect with one another. When terrible things happen and communities…
