Remember that time when the previous government of NZ produced an answer to the issue of diurnal load balancing of NZ’s electricity network, in the form of a massive hydroelectric battery…

… and then the new Government cancelled it before complaining that Huntly made dirty power as propaganda?

I mean yeah it’s an authoritarian takeover but can we take some comfort in the fact that the people doing it are INSANELY stupid?

So, in other news, what anti-trans-activists in the UK relish in referring to disparagingly as “Stonewall Law”…

… is now apparently legally adjudicated as “worthy of respect in a democratic society” by equity of protection afforded to it by paragraph 93 of the Judgment in Bailey’s failed appeal.

Between the rationales given by Queensland, the NT, and also apparently by the current NZ shitshow of a government ignoring medical advice… each apparently waiting for results of a UK study:

They do all know that the good science they claim to want doesn’t just rely on one knobbled study, right?!

“NT Health Minister Steve Edgington said the government was barring the treatment for under 18s, saying children should be safe from “dangerous ideologically driven practices”.”

So, at least they’re openly stating these moves are political in nature now. I guess that makes it a federal court issue.

And also, if people really didn’t “understand the plan” (they do!), then perhaps it shouldn’t have been one that looked at everything you said in pre-election debates and said “Yeah, nah. Let’s do the opposite.”
Dude your plan is not complicated. People understand your plan. They also understand it hasn’t worked because, stay with me here, it was a bad plan. If we’re talking about understanding here I don’t think ‘people’ are the ones suffering from a lack of it.

Christopher Luxon: ‘People don’t always understand the plan’
After two years in the job, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says that the media will continue to underestimate his political skills.

“I look forward to completing your training”, said Starmer, his words bellowing from the contorted face beneath the dark shadow of his cloak upon the throne. “Soon you will call ~me~ aspirational.”
"We've had a series of governments now who have encouraged people to be aspirational for New Zealand and have promised things that have been completely unrealistic. ... I'm not going to fall into that trap."

Centrist waffle doesn't appeal to people. Showing that you care about something, that you want to make people's lives better, that you will listen to them and use your position to do it, and unifying "minor" issues under a coherent story about your principles and goals REALLY APPEALS TO PEOPLE

The thing is, taking a strong stand in defence of trans people's rights isn't just the correct moral thing to do. It's also the politically smart thing to do.

Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

This a regular issue in the Cheapside area of the 'small' welsh market town of Bridgend also, which during WW2 was connected to part of a massive ordinance factory complex identified by the Luftwaffe as a strategic target.

They just found 4 this year, over two separate occasions.
A brief reminder that war sucks.

Eighty years after the end of the war, a World War II bomb is being defused in Kassel today. 2,500 people had to evacuate the district within minutes.

In cities with large arms industries, this happens on average once a week.

For 80 years!

Idea:

Drag Queen Story Time, but aimed at a strictly adult audience.

Nothing much about the event changes and it's still as perfectly innocent and magical as it ever was...

... It's just that instead of a pre-school book about the weather, she reads a series of Tolkien's tree descriptions instead

Turns out the real threat to women and children were the Republicans in charge. They scapegoated trans people to deflect from their own sex crimes against women and children.
As all this disgusting Epstein shit starts surfacing more and more, I hope we don't lose sight of the fact that apparently every major media outlet knew everything and instead spent their time money and energy attacking the trans community.

Where are they going to? 58% of migrant departures of New Zealand citizens went to Australia. Going to a country with Fair Pay Agreements, a growing economy, low energy prices, and a capital gains taxation system. For some reason that doesn’t seem to so be unpopular.

Wow, such clarity.

There we were, ticking along for so many years without too much of an issue beyond a few people occasionally saying "Eek! a trans person!"...

... and then BANG... the Supreme Court brings "clarity", and the Equalities Minister submits an 87 point equivocating note to a court.
We are watching closely 👀

The Minister's position in her skeleton argument (published by GLP below) makes for very interesting reading.

So, today's reporting in Stuff demonstrates not just the importance of commas, but also the importance of ensuring a clear and correct order and structure to clauses within a sentence.

... and of course, Epstein died just a few months later.
