Kavanaugh Stops over dinner? How efficient
Armed ICE agents trapped US citizens in a restaurant and demanded their papers. Federal agents walked into East African restaurants in Cedar-Riverside, MN. They closed and blocked the doors. Then they demanded to see everyone’s papers. Every person present was a US citizen.

I think about his example all the time. He made me feel like I was good enough to do this and that I could be myself while doing it.

He had no patience for pomposity and made it clear you could be a Real Scholar and normal human at the same time. Hell, I’m not sure the other way is sustainable.

When I was left "unmapped" after a reorganization in the online ed co I worked for, I sent this as part of my farewell:
Absolutely, positively, reject the idea that we serve (or should serve) "customers". We serve students. Teachers. Schools. We serve the ideals of education and common sense. /1
YOUR STUDENTS ARE NOT YOUR CUSTOMERS.

Get the fuck out of education if that's the way you're talking about them.
Yes we all agree that this is the reason colleges are in trouble

My career in bioinformatics *did not exist* when I was 18 years old. I joined a brand new field in my mid-20s, and had to be flexible and creative. Trying to get by with a narrow slate of skills considered relevant in the mid-1990s would've been hopeless.
Even if we would stipulate that the *only* purpose of college is vocational training (ugh) if you think you, at 18 years old, not only know for sure what your future career will be but also know better than all the professors at a college what skills you will need for that career, why bother?

And as usual, the liberal side has facts and cogent arguments, while the illiberal majority has a short "nuh uh", mainly hinged on "we must presume good faith" and the irreparable harm caused by somehow NOT executing a mid-term plainly racist/partisan gerrymander.

I was a *Religious Studies* major; in my time she would have been rightly BBQ'd had she dared to hand in this absolute drek.

Having the Coast Guard, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, decide that a swastika isn’t really a symbol of hate? That makes me, an American Jew, feel pretty damn unsafe.

Objectives aren't written "students will understand" but "students will demonstrate understanding" because we don't actually know if people get stuff; we presume they do because they do stuff that people who understand stuff do.

Aaaand that's the problem with AI in a nutshell

I find the phrase “makes history” nonsensical. Have you seen the stuff historians study? Just dropping an old piece of farm equipment down a well or accidentally freezing to death in a glacier gives you a good shot at the history books
